MATCH REPORTS 2009/10

21st Nov 2009 Crediton 15 Brixham 19
Crediton was wet, windy and very muddy. Playing down the slope in the first half the home side steamrollered Brixham, turned around 15-0 in front and thought they had the game in the bag. Unfortunately Brixham had other ideas and three unanswered tries - by Cody Dyer, Sean Stidston and Josh Brennan were the response. Despite all being out wide Dyer converted two, and hit the post, to secure a worthy victory.

7th Nov 2009 BRIXHAM 19 PAIGNTON 13
In the first period Brixham failed to gel and turned around 8-0 down. An improved performance in the second period - and particularly in the final 25 minutes - turned the game around. A brace of tries by Josh Passmore, one from Tom Maclean and two conversions by Cody Dyer saw them to victory.

31st Oct 2009 COLTS 7 NEWTON ABBOT 6

10th Oct 2009 Brixham 12 Tavistock 24

3rd Oct 2009 BRIXHAM 29 PLYMSTOCK ALBION OAKS 15
Saturday's game against Plymstock Albion Oaks was also a game of two distinctly different halves, but totally different.
From the outset Brixham were under pressure but once the storm was weathered they attacked with pace. Centre Tom McLean finished off a good handling move by the backs for the opening try. Two more tries in quick succession midway through the first half increased the Brixham lead and a further brace late in the half, both converted by Cody Dyer took the Fishermen to the break 29-0 ahead. McLean had scored all five tries.
Whatever was said at half-time on this occasion did not work. The visitors dominated possession and territory and Brixham had few opportunities to attack. Plymstock scored three unconverted tries to narrow the margin but the Brixham defence was solid enough to secure the win.

30th Sept 2009 TEIGNMOUTH 5 BRIXHAM 41
On Wednesday a much improved Brixham side secured a much-needed win at Bitton Park but it was decidedly a game of two halves. There was little to write home about in the first half and only a solitary try by Brixham captain Rhys Cattell separated the two sides at the break.
A few well-chosen, and kind, words during the interval brought results as Brixham began to play as a team in the second period. Centre Tom McLean ran in three tries, followed by newbie Steven Laidlaw (who had had one disallowed in the first half).
The other centre - Sean Stidston - was next to cross the line, followed by outside-half Josh Fitton capping a fine display. Fullback Cody Dyer landed three conversions.

26th Sept 2009 BRIXHAM 18 DEV SERVS 41
After a promising first half performance Brixham were undone in the second by the pace of the Services backs - and far too many missed tackles.
The opening minutes of the match were played entirely in the Brixham half and Services went ahead with a long range penalty goal. Tom Maclean then put Brixham ahead with a try but the lead was short-lived. One of the visitors' speedy wingers collected a Brixham clearance and touched down in the corner. The difficult conversion put his team 10-5 ahead.
A penalty from Cody Dyer and a second try by Maclean put Brixham back ahead but before halftime the Services pack drove over for a converted try that restored their lead.
In the second period four tries - two converted - to Services saw them well clear of Brixham who struggled to make many inroads. A late consolation try to Brixham's Josh Fitton completed the scoring.

5th Sept 2009 TORQUAY 63 BRIXHAM 3

MATCH REPORTS 2009/10 (Under 16s)

7th March 2010 TAVISTOCK 15 BRIXHAM 26 Devon Plate Q/F
Brixham under 16’s came out on top to win a firey encounter 26-15 at Tavistock in the quarter final of the Devon Plate. Tavistock with the slope advantage caught Brixham napping early on to take a 5-0 lead. Brixham upped their game and pressurised Tavvy which resulted in a try from number 8 Marcus Pope followed by a further one from scrum half Barney Allen. Ten minutes before half time tempers flared on both sides which resulted in a dubious yellow card for a Brixham player. Tavistock took advantage of the extra man and ran in their second try leaving the half time score 14-10.
The second half went mainly Brixhams way with further tries from Ben Sharples and Paul Davies. J P Simonetti kicked 3 out of 4 conversions.Tavistock replied with their third unconverted try but the game was already won and with tempers flaring again the final whistle was a welcome relief. The Fishermen now look forward to a semi final fixture away to Newton Abbot.

Report - Lee Chase
According to John the Laundry this was a somewhat fractious contest played in the bitter chill of the moorland fringe.

17th Feb 2010 Tiverton 12 Brixham 34 - Devon Plate
Brixham arrived at a very wet and extremely muddy Tiverton on Wednesday night hungry for a game after falling foul of the weather for the previous three weeks. In only their second game of the New Year they didn't disappoint, dominating from the outset with two early tries courtesy of centre Josh Lowe. Tiverton then replied with a try of their own, only for Tom Fletcher and Ben Sharples to score one apiece leaving the half time score at 5-22.
In the second half the conditions deteriated, and credit must be given to the referee for his efforts in keeping the game going, but this didn't stop Tom Fletcher going over for his second try of the match. Tiverton then managed to score a converted try although Brixham by now had the game won. With players becoming so muddy they were unrecognisable Sam Cooke can be forgiven for tackling his second row partner Gregg Wedderburn minutes before latching on to a pass and running in for the final try of the game. Luke Chase and Steve Smith slotted one conversion each to leave the final score 12-34

20th Dec 2009 BRIXHAM 5 EXETER CHIEFS 5

6th Dec 2009 Brixham 34 Torquay 5
After Saturday's rain the pitch at Astley Park was muddy but eminently playable on Sunday.
After early pressure from Torquay that was unrewarded, Brixham got into their stride uphill and against the wind to take the lead through a Barney Allen try. Ten minutes later they had the game won. Brixham broke through the centre for their second score but the try was disallowed but almost immediately spun the ball wide for JP Simonetti to touch down in the corner. A third try soon followed. From a penalty close to the Torquay line Ryan Collins ran through for the score.
Before halftime the lead was further extended when Brixham ran the ball out of defence and Collins once more finished off with a try under the posts. The conversion, plus an earlier one, put them 24-0 up at the break.
In the second period the game was more evenly contested but Brixham extended their lead when Harry Davis scooted down the wing to score under the posts. The least said about the conversion attempt the better!
Torquay pressure, aided by penalties conceded by Brixham, got them on the scoreboard with a try in the corner but Brixham had the last word when Sam Cooke scored their sixth try.

25th Oct 2009 BRIXHAM 14 NEWTON ABBOT 40
Brixham were outmuscled in the second half of this game after a good first half. They took the lead after a series of forward drives but failed to take advatage and Newton replied with a try and took the lead with a penalty. Towards half-time Brixham enjoyed a better period and a try late on took them into the break 14-10 in front.
Unfortunately they now had the slope and the wind against them. Newton used these far better than Brixham had. Four tries took them well clear. A penalty and another try late on sealed their win.
Brixham Scorers: Tries Ben Sharples & Marcus Pope, Conversions JP Simonetti (2)

11th Oct 2009 Plymstock 10 Brixham 41
Brixham travelled to Plymstock without three of their players, Luke Chase has broken his hand, Josh Lowe continues to struggle with a shoulder problem and Matt Whitbread is still sidelined with a broken foot.
This aside the Fishermen put on an excellent performance on a windy day to run in seven tries courtesy of Harry Davis (2), Damien Thomson, Ben Sharples, Paul Davis, Rob Bounsall and Marcus Pope. J.P. Simonetti kicked three conversions. Brixham took the opportunity in the second half, having a reasonable lead, to make use of all their replacements. This obviously upset the rhythm slightly but did not stop Brixham keeping up the pressure, the one down side was Kyle Cane suffered a split lip in this half which needed a hospital visit and stitches. Plymstock stuck to their task and managed to score two unconverted tries in the latter quarter of the game.
This result has lifted Brixham to Third in the League, if the lads can keep this going and also avoid to many major injuries the rest of the season looks promising.

20 Sept 2009 Fishermens Cup
BRIXHAM 79 KINGSBRIDGE 0
Before Sunday Brixham had played two games away from home - played well but lost both to "fancied" teams in the competition.
On their homecoming they again played well and blew Kingsbridge away with 13 tries for their first win of the campaign. While they never really dominated the opposition they were better organised in defence and had too much pace and ability going forward.
JP Simonetti opened the scoring with a try in the second minute, which he also converted. It took Brixham another 15 minutes to open up the Kingsbridge defence. Harry Davis used his speed to grab a brace of tries and was followed over the line by Marcus Phillips, Damian Thomson and Rob Bounsall before the break - Simonetti converted three.
In the second half Brixham showed their ability to pass the ball wide and support the ball-carriers, enabling Ryan Collins and Josh Lowe (four times!) to touch down wide on the left. Further tries from Paul Davies and Tom Fletcher (and Simonetti's four second half conversions) completed the scoring.
Kingsbridge lost heavily but it was never a rout and Brixham's solid defence kept their line intact as the visitors pressed hard on several occasions.

Sept 13th 2009 Ivybridge 17 Brixham 0
Brixham U16's went down 17-0 to Ivybridge in the second round of the Fisherman's cup. They arrived three players short as their tight head prop Matt Whitbread had unfortunately broken his ankle and will be out for at least two months, the other tight head Kyle Cane has damaged his back and Dale Rodgers was unavailable. Harry Dyer stepped into the breach to play tight head and he filled the void well. This aside Brixham started the game full of determination and this showed unreservedly as they camped in the Ivybridge 22m and on their try line (for all but one small break out) for the whole of the first half. It was all credit to the Ivybridge defence that Brixham were unable to turn the pressure into points and the half ended surprisingly 0-0.
The second half started a lot more evenly and after 20mins. Ivybridge got to the Brixham 22m and were awarded a penalty which they gratefully kicked to take a 3-0 lead. Five mins later they broke through Brixham's defence for a converted try under the posts. As the clock ticked away Ivybridge managed to muscle their way over the line for their second converted try leaving the final score 17-0.
Brixham should be very proud of their performance, improving on last weeks outing at Devonport but unfortunately the score line again did in no way reflect Brixham's domination. If Brixham keep improving the way they are and find a way of actually crossing the whitewash (instead of camping on it!) they should be in for some very impressive score lines this season.

Sept 6th 2009 Devonport Services 24 Brixham 5
Brixham travelled to the Rectory in Plymouth with high hopes of putting on a good show, this was achieved in no small measure with the team working very well as a unit. Tom Fletcher - who scored a try early on, but unfortunately the ref was unsighted and didn't have the luxury of a TMO - played like a man possessed, along with his second row partner Sam Cook who was rising high in the line-outs. Fielding three new signings, Paul Davis, Ryan Collins and Barney Allen, along with several other players in new positions, Brixham excelled with their rucking and set plays, coming close to scoring on several occasions. All credit to Devonport for three times in the first half they were given a small opportunity to break out and this they did, culminating in them scoring each time of which two were converted. The second half was a lot more even than the first; with both sides scoring one unconverted try, Brixham's being touched down by Ryan Collins on his debut.
Brixham will have had the hardest start possible to this years Fisherman's cup with the first two games away at Devonport and then Ivybridge. The score line did not reflect the domination of the Brixham forwards in this opening match, but if they can keep this tempo going they should be somewhere in the mix come the end of the season.

U16's Adventure Weekend
The under 16's enjoyed a bonding weekend at an adventure centre in Bude, prior to the start of the Fisherman's cup season. The lads enjoyed Kayaking, Abseiling, Surfing and a very entertaining Problem Solving session. The boy's accommodation was large airy tents while the coaches had to get cosy in very small tents. The late evening entertainment was provided by our very own apprentice pop star 'Tom Critchlow' on guitar, accompanied by take away Pizza. We headed home early Monday evening weary, but having enjoyed a good two days which will hopefully stand us in good stead for the coming season.
Special thanks to Dartmouth Community College for loaning us their mini bus, and Jeff Hunt for giving up his time and driving us to and from the camp.

Saturday 7th March 2009 BRIXHAM 13 DEVONPORT SERVICES 15

Saturday 21st February 2009 COLTS 11 IVYBRIDGE 27
On Saturday the top two sides in the Devon Colts Merit Table (S&W) clashed at Astley Park but a lacklustre display by the Fishermen enabled Ivybridge to do the double over them.
Brixham took the lead in the first minute when Mitchell Player slotted a penalty goal but for much of the game Brixham were on the back foot and forced to mount a rearguard action. The lead was short-lived. After five minutes Ivybridge scored a try under the posts; easily converted. Player landed a second penalty for Brixham two minutes later but an Ivybridge kick midway through the first half took them to the break 10-6 ahead.
In the second period it was very much one way traffic. The Brixham defence held out for 15 minutes but three tries in quick succession killed off their hopes. At the very end Brixham finally put some pressure on Ivybridge and got a consolation try through Luke Maggs in the last act of the game.

Saturday 14th February 2009 Cullompton 5 Colts 31

Saturday 31st January 2009 COLTS 17 TORQUAY 14
Torquay kicked off with the strong wind behind them and there were not many scoring chances created in the first half. Brixham dropped the ball with the try line begging and then missed a penalty.
Brixham kicked off in the second half and Jack Clarke went over for the opening try; Andy Thomas was just wide with the conversion. A resolute Torquay came back with a charged down kick to score under the posts and kicked the conversion to go 7 5 up.
Brixham responded with a try by Alex Murray-Smith out wide. With the conversion attempt by Mitchell Player just going wide Brixham edged ahead 10 7. Torquay bounced straight back with a well worked try in the corner. Against the strong wind the conversion was a great effort and put Torquay 14 10 in front whith time running out. Brixham were down to 14 men when they moved the ball wide for D Langmead to score a late try. Thomas kicked the conversion to give Brixham a hard fought win agaist a resolute Torquay.

Saturday 15th November 2008 BRIXHAM 47 TAVISTOCK 12
Brixham Colts continued their winning ways with a solid performance against Tavistock on Saturday - laying the foundations for victory with a solid first-half performance. Three tries, all converted by Mitchell Player, put them in front before a late burst brought two more, through Michael Dei and Scott Eaves, and eased them to a 33-9 interval lead.
During the opening minutes of the second half Tavistock were camped on the Brixham line and were unlucky to reap no reward. Brixham extended their lead after 15 minutes when Eaves crossed for his second try and were pressing again minutes later. A wayward pass was intercepted by a Tavistock centre who raced away to score under the posts. Brixham later scored their seventh try of the afternoon but the vistors had the final say. Attacking to the end Tavistock scored their second try before the referee blew for time.

Saturday 1st November 2008 COLTS 24 PAIGNTON 5
On a wet and windy day Brixham colts grinded out a 24-5 win over arch rivals Paignton. Paignton had the better of the first half but couldnt turn pressure into points as Brixham ended the first half 5-0 up thanks to a Tom mclean try. shortly after the break Brixham scored again, this time off a charging run by number 8 Callum browse who ran 30 yards to touch down. Paignton replyed five minutes later with a well worked try crashing over in the corner to make the score 10-5. With 10 minutes left of the game Brixham seemed to step it up a gear and scored in quick succestion with centre Tom Mclean adding two more tries to bag his hat trick, both were converted to make the final score 24-5 to the home side.

Saturday 25th October 2008 TORQUAY COLTS 19 BRIXHAM COLTS 29
Brixham Colts gained a very good win over a strong Torquay side running out 29 - 19 winners.
Brixham started the stronger side and were rewarded with a penalty from which Andrew Thomas converted. Torquay hitback shortly after with a penalty to make it 3-3 after 15 minutes. Brixham soon got back inside Torquays half and after some good work from the forwards, spaces soon opened outwide in which Tom Mclean skipped through to touchdown with Thomas converting. This sprung Torquay into action hitting back with two quick tries, the first coming from a flowing move outwide and the second coming from hardwork by the forwards in which they crashed over. Brixham then replied with another try, after playing some good phases of rugby, Brixham prop Micheal Dei popped up in mid-field and some slick handling from the prop forward saw him run in for a well worked try, Thomas converted to make it 17-13 to the visitors at the break.
After the break Brixham seemed to step it up a gear going in for 2 tries in 10 mintues. After a well worked backs moves outwide, Aaron Lee spotted a hole in the centre and went over to give Brixham a 22-13 lead. Brixhams second try in the second half came from a cleverly worked counter attack from thier own 22 in which full back Alex Murray-Smith gathered the ball and went passed a host of players before offloading to fly half Mitchel Player to race away going past 3 players just to be held up before the line, from the resulting ruck, Micheal Dei crashed over for his second try of the match, Player converted to make it 29-13. Heavy pressure from the Torquay side in the final 15 minutes resulted with them converitng two penalties late on to make the final score 29-19 to the visitors.

MATCH REPORTS 2008/9 (Under 15s)

Sunday 29th March 2009
Brixham reached the final of the Devon U15's 7's Plate tournament at Crediton.
They overcame Exmouth, Tavistock, and Exeter Chiefs, but missed out on making the cup final stages by narrowly losing out to Newton Abbot 10-7.
In a thrilling and hard fought plate semi final with Ivybridge by the time the final whistle had blown they had come through with a 19-12 win setting up a final against Exeter Saracens. Some very tired bodies took to the field for the final but the effort in overcoming Ivybridge had left them just short on energy if not enthusiasm and ended up losing 15-0.
The whole squad of 11 players gave it their all on the day and should be very proud of themselves. On another day the odd piece of luck here and there might just have made the difference to arriving home with some silverware.
Well Done Boys
The Team: Robert Bounsall, Luke Chase, Sam Cook, Harry Davis, Ashley Leech, Josh Lowe, Marcus Phillips, Marcus Pope, Ben Sharples, Steven Smith, Damien Thomson

Sunday 15th March 2009
B game: DEVON 19 SOMERSET 5
A game: DEVON 34 SOMERSET 13

Brixham had three players in the Devon squads; hooker Ben Sharples played in the B game while winger Harry Davis and flanker Marcus Phillips were in the A game. Davis scored one of the Devon tries.

Sunday 8th March 2009 Brixham 5 Paignton 29 (Devon Plate)

Sunday 22nd February 2009 Brixham 0 Devonport Services 44
The score in this game did no justice to the way the Brixham forwards played. Unfortunately the Devonport backs were much too quick for the Brixham backs and were rounded, but not for the lack of trying, for most of the tries. Devonport opened the scoring out wide within two minutes to be quickly followed with a penalty kick to leave Brixham trailing 0-10 early on. For the first time this season the Brixham forwards rucked as a team and kept it up for the whole game giving the scrum half Luke Chase some of the cleanest ball he's ever had and an opportunity to make use of it. Good strong runs from the hooker Ben Sharples and close support from Marcus Pope kept Devonport constantly on their toes. Unfortunately by the half time whistle Devonport had seen enough ball to run in a further three tries and convert two leaving the score at 0-29.
In the second half with Brixham playing down the slope Half Back Harry Dyer and Full Back Steve Smith put in some nice kicks to help keep the pressure on the opposition, but with Devonport showing good defence Brixham twice got the ball across their try line, once Marcus Phillips the other Harry Dyer, only to be held up and the ball eventually being cleared. Devonport showed their speed and slick handling skills to score 3 more tries in this half to leave the final score 0-44. Devonport are one of the strongest teams in Devon at this level and if the forwards can take this performance on to future games things should get better for the team.
Overall this was a much improved performance from the forwards as a pack; they moved around the park as a team and generally took the right options when they arrived at the breakdowns. Matters weren't helped with the two centres J.P. Simonetti (fractured skull) and Josh Lowe (shoulder) on the injury list and Harry Davis (lower back) joining them within ten minutes of the start of the game. Brixham can take away some valuable lessons from this game, and that coupled with more commitment to training (you know who you are!!) could result in a different outcome next time.

Sunday 15th February 2009 BRIXHAM 5 PAIGNTON 17
Brixham's under 15's game against Paignton was moved to Astley Park as Clennon Valley was waterlogged. Paignton scored the first unconverted try after some good rucking and passing to outflank the Brixham defence. Brixham replied with a great break from Josh Lowe well supported by Harry Davies and Luke Chase who earned a penalty due to Paignton flopping on the ball and killing it on the 5 metre line. Chase fed wide to Marcus Phillips who scored Brixham's first and only try. The conversion was missed leaving the score 5-5. It was nip and tuck for the rest of the half before Paignton scored a second try right on half time.
The second half started well for the home side with great pressure and several chances to score but Paignton's defence held up well. The last try of the game came from Paignton leaving the final score 5-15. Brixham look forward to the rematch when they welcome Paignton in the next round of The Devon Plate.

Sunday 1st February 2009 Kingsbridge 12 Brixham 73

A cold and windy day saw the setting for this u15s Plate game at Kingsbridge.
The home side kicked off but soon fell behind from two tries from Brixham hooker Ben Sharples. Kingsbridge came back with a converted try shortly afterwards, after putting pressure on the Brixham defence.
Futher tries from JP Simonetti, Marcus Phillips and Tom Fletcher brought the half time score to 25-7. In the second half Kingsbridge scored a second try early on, but missed the conversion. From then on Brixham took control, excelent work between the forwards and backs led to further tries from Marcus Phillips, JP Simonetti, Harry Dyer, Harry Davis(2) and a third from Ben Sharples with two conversions by JP Simonetti bringing the score to 59-12.
Shortly afterwards Brixham won the ball from a ruck leaving Luke Chase to run just over half the length of the pitch to score from a surperb solo effort converted by Harry Dyer. Jack Clark added one more try, his first for Brixham, converted by Josh Lowe to leave the final score Kingsbridge 12 Brixham 73.
The final score could easily suggest a walkover, but credit where it's due, Kingsbridge did not for one minute give up, and those watching enjoyed a competitive well contested game of rugby.

Sunday 21st December 2008 BRIXHAM 31 EXETER CHIEFS 15
Exeter started the game well and drove powerfully through Brixham to score an unconverted try in the first few minutes of the game. This seemed to wake Brixham up and they spent a fair amount of time attacking the Exeter line before being awarded a penalty 5m out, a quick tap by scrum half Luke Chase resulted with him diving over to open Brixham's scoring, this was converted by J.P. Simonetti. Brixham continued the good work with some excellent rucking and great offloading of the ball in the tackle and soon had another opportunity which was unfortunately lost due to the last pass being knocked on. It wasn't long before Brixham, with some great interpassing from the forwards and backs ended up with another quick penalty tap that was scored by Ben Sharples who was making his comeback after damaging his shoulder. Brixham's third score came after that an excellent run by Josh Lowe and good offload to Ben Sharples resulted in his second try. The last try before the half came through a good passing move by the backs ending with J.P. Simonetti dancing his way over the line and then converting leaving the half time score at 24-5.
Brixham started the second half in the same vain, with good support play and driving from the forwards, a good pick up by Corry Bird lead to the ball being shipped to Luke Chase who sprinted around the defence from about 40m out to score his second try under the posts which was again converted. Brixham then made substitutions which affected the rhythm of the game , but taking nothing away from Exeter they rallied and the forwards started doing some powerful drives and it was only through great defence that Brixham managed to hold them to just two more tries by the final whistle leaving the score at 31-15.

Sunday 14th December 2008 TEIGNMOUTH 17 BRIXHAM 31

Brixham travelled away to Teignmouth with barely enough numbers due to a serious injury count this season, but the lads excelled themselves with a great display of rugby.
The back row partnership of Pope and Phillips caused the Teignmouth defence problems all day and between them they scored three tries. With the forwards playing with their heads up the backs got some great ball and also scored two well worked tries one to Josh Lowe and one to Ashley Leach, the new centre partnership of Lowe and Simonetti kept Teignmouth pinned in their own half with some great positional kicking. Defensively the whole team played very well not giving Teignmouth much space although when they did get a yard of space they scored three great tries two from their speedy centre who stepped and out paced the Brixham backs on two occations. The rugby from both sides was great end to end stuff and the ball handling skill for this level was a joy to watch. A mention should go to Luke Chase who broke his leg in three places at the end of last season and seemed to play with his old confidence, and also Tom Fletcher who cracked a bone in his foot earlier in the season and played really well for his first game back. We should also like to mention the referee who had a great game himself and contributed to a great game.
Brixham scorers:
Tries: Philips 2, Pope 1, Lowe 1 and Leach 1 Conversions: Simonetti 3

Sunday 23rd November 2008 BRIXHAM 28 TIVERTON 17
Brixham opened the scoring in the first minute when Harry Davis outpaced the Tiverton defence to touch down in the corner. Despite the difficult crosswind captain Harry Dyer landed the difficult conversion.
Tiverton then settled down and had Brixham penned back. They narrowed the gap with an unconverted try but Brixham hit back almost immediately when Marcus Phillips went over for a try. Dyer's conversion scraped over the bar. Before the interval Brixham's backs combined to put Davis in under the posts (for a straightforward conversion) but Tiverton replied with the last move of the half and Brixham turned around 21-10 ahead.
The second half started as the first had. This time it was Tiverton who scored an early try and with the conversion reduced the deficit to just four points. With the advantage of the slope Brixham pressed for more points but were denied on several occasions. Eventually an opening appeared and Phillips got his second try; and Dyer his fourth conversion. Tiverton never gave up and had Brixham on the back foot as the referees watch ticked down. By the time he blew for No Side tempers on both sides had become heated, despite the cold wind, and the warm showers brought welcome relief.

Sunday 2nd November 2008 BRIXHAM v PLYMSTOCK ALBION OAKS

Wednesday 29th October 2008 BRIXHAM 19 TORQUAY 12
Despite the miserable early winter weather; and, probably, under floodlights for the first time; the two teams contrived an entertaining spectacle.
Brixham with two tries from Marcus Phillips and one from Josh Lowe - and two conversions from JP Simonetti - ran out winners but Torquay nearly stole the show. Congratulations to both sides for the game.

Sunday 5th October BRIXHAM 3 EXETER SARACENS 31
Brixham came unstuck against a bigger, and better organised, side on Sunday morning. Having taken the lead after 5 minutes through a JP Simonetti penalty goal Brixham soon found themselves behind when Saracens crossed under the posts for a converted try. The Exeter pack dominated the lineouts and had Brixham under pressure at the scrums. For the remainder of the first half the Brixham defence held out.
In the second period Brixham continued to struggle for decent possession and often kicked away what they had; allowing the Exeter side to run the ball back at them. Four tries and two coversions demonstrated the superiority that Exeter Saracens had.

Sunday 28th September 2008 BRIXHAM 53 KINGSBRIDGE 15
Kingsbridge came to Astley Park short of players so Brixham had to lend them two of theirs. Despite this it was the visitors who started strongly and were unlucky not to open the scoring. Brixham responded and with ten minutes gone had run in two tries in quick succession to establish a lead. Kingsbridge again put pressure on Brixham and got back into the game with two tries from the "loan" players. Late in the first half the two sides traded tries and Brixham turned around with a narrow 17-15 lead.
Although Kingsbridge never let their heads drop in the second half it was pretty much one-way traffic as Brixham went over for six more tries and an impressive victory margin. Josh Lowe and Marcus Phillips both scored hat-tricks of tries; Rob Bounsall got a brace while Sam Cooke grabbed one after spotting a gap in a line-out. JP Simonetti slotted four conversions. Ben Sharples and Harry Davis both scored tries for Kingsbridge.
