5th February Paignton 17 Brixham 29
Who needs the 6 Nations when you can watch rugby like this? This was a Plate competition and both teams showed 100% commitment for the whole match. The scoreline doesn't fairly reflect the efforts of a Paignton side who looked capable of pulling off a win, right to the end. Brixham were unlucky to be 2 tries down after the first 15 minutes, as they were playing mainly in the Paignton half and had most of the possession. Paignton's front row was large and deceptively quick though and they ran in a couple of breakaway tries from their own half.
The Brixham pack comprising Oliver Cook, Ben Weedon, Rob McLeod, Michael Ward, Piers Benjamin, William Jackson, Alex Mulholland and Bradleigh Langdon, still dominated both in the scrum and in open play - their possession had to count in the end. Fly-half kieran avery scored first for Brixham after they won a scrum on the Cherries 5m line. A quick dummy and he was over for 5 points. The Brixham forwards heaped the pressure on again from the re-start, winning a lineout and making good ground with a pick and go routine. The effort paid off, with Mulholland crashing over for a try which was well converted by Avery, bringing the scores level at half-time with 12 points apiece.
After being behind for most of the first half, the young fishermen were in no mood to let Paignton back into the game, however they missed a perfect opportunity to score straight after re-start, when a 4 on 2 overlap went begging. Some great running by Jack Brown, Langdon and Douglas Oakes earned them a penalty after a Paignton player was pinged for lying on the ball. McLeod collected the penalty tap and couldn't be stopped on his charge to the corner - after a consultation with the linesman, a try was awarded.
Brixham didn't have it all their own way though and had to win a scrum against the head 5m from their own line so that Avery could make the clearance. The 2 tries that gave Brixham some breathing space were scored by Oakes - the first from a penalty tap 15m out (taking the Cherries defence by surprise) and the second after he took a great line from the running of McLeod and Mulholland. (One try converted by Andre Simonetti). At this point, the Cherries decided to bring their wingers into the game and a certain score was denied with great tackle by scrum-half Sam Clark, who was having an excellent game.
For the last 10 minutes both teams used their subs to put some fresh legs on the pitch and the stalemate lasted until Paignton scored another breakaway try after a run deep into their territory by Oakes. Sensing an upset, Paignton tested the Brixham defence again, but the fishermen held firm and did well to close out a very tight game.

8th January 2012 Brixham 31 Ivybridge 33
Ivybridge travelled up to Astley Park for the second time this season - the first match resulted in a victory for Brixham. This time Ivybridge came armed with a larger set of backs and this helped to secure the result they wanted. Brixham kicked off and elected to take the benefit of the slope to start with and this put them in a good position to dominate with their strong forward play, although a number of opportunities went begging through handling errors and penalties incurred at the ruck. Brixham scrum-half Andre Simonetti was the first to touch down after the young Fishermen secured the ball from a 5m lineout. The conversion narrowly missed.
Ivybridge started to focus and tested Brixham's defence with strong midfield running. Douglas Oakes had to put in several big tackles, but probably the tackle of the season so far goes to the try-saving effort by Bradleigh Langdon, after he sprinted half the width of the pitch to tackle an Ivy winger into touch at the corner flag. Oakes then put in one hard tackle too many and had to leave the pitch with a damaged shoulder. The resulting change in midfield was exploited by Ivybridge after they won a scrum 10m out, their no.12 cutting a great angle to touch down under the posts. Ivy scored two more converted tries before the break, both from missed tackles in midfield.
At the turnaround, Brixham trailed by 5 points to 21 and desperately needed a try to get them back into the match. This was provided courtesy of replacement prop Harvey Bevan-Jones (and his extra long arms), although 2 Ivy players tackled him short of the line, he managed to stretch out and get the ball down on it. The conversion was well taken by fly-half Kieran Avery. Brixham scored again from a penalty tap in midfield. Second row William Jackson took the ball on, before off-loading to Alex Mulholland in the contact - he made light work of bursting through the remaining defence for a try which went unconverted.
Ivy extended their lead after a good kick by their fly-half - the chase by their winger was good and he was able to cross in the corner for 5 points. Brixham retaliated with strong running by Oliver Cook, Michael Ward, Rob McLeod and Langdon. A ruck was formed almost on top of the Ivy tryline and Oakley Thompson scored the cheekiest try of the season after he dived straight over the top of the ruck with the ball. Avery's conversion was cheeky as well - bouncing on the crossbar as it passed between the uprights!
At this point Ivybridge were only 2 points ahead, but the game was beginning to open up and Ivy scored next after the ball was spun out to the winger. Although full-time was near, Brixham didn't give up and instead won a scrum in midfield. Langdon collected the ball at the base before off-loading to Jackson - he made good ground and then passed to Mulholland, who made sure the ball was touched down under the posts for an easy conversion.

11th December KINGSBRIDGE 19 BRIXHAM 24
The rain held off and Brixham travelled to Highhouse on Sunday to play a strong Kingsbridge side. These teams have enjoyed close games for several seasons and this was to be no exception, Brixham playing possibly some of their best rugby so far this year to edge out a Kingsbridge team who fought to the bitter end.
Kingsbridge kicked off and Brixham made ground via the forwards, before Kings infringed and Brixham spun the ball out from a penalty tap. Winger Oakley Thompson received and ran through 3 tacklers before touching down for a try. The conversion narrowly missed. Kingsbridge retaliated after winning a scrum in the Brixham half. Again the ball went wide and a lovely floated pass found their left winger for a try in the corner, which the fly-half did well to convert. They struck again after pilfering Brixham's ball in their own half - the winger homed in on the corner flag again for another 5 points.
Brixham returned to the fray and Kings gave away several penalties - the forwards took the ball on again, with powerful runs by Alex Mulholland, Piers Benjamin, William Jackson and Bradleigh Langdon, Oliver Cook collecting and making the last dash to the corner for a try which fly-half Kieran Avery did very well to convert.

At the turnaround the scores were level and Kings again started to give away penalties, trying to stop Brixham's pick and go game. After getting to within 20 meters of the Kingsbridge tryline, Andre Simonetti passed out to the backs - Douglas Oakes' run attracting 5 Kingsbridge defenders and he was stopped just shy of the line, but the ball found Thompson in space and he scored his second try of the match. Rob McLeod converted.
Not to be outdone, Kingsbridge responded quickly after some hesitation by Brixham after a knock-on in midfield. With the ref playing advantage, Kings spun the ball out to a centre who managed to evade the remaining defence for a well taken try under the posts. Again the scores were level at 19 all.
Simonetti kicked the restart and took Kingsbridge by surprise, with the ball finding touch deep in their half. The Kingsbridge lineout had functioned well up to this point, but Langdon won the ball and the forwards drove it forward, with Mulholland powering over for a clinical, match-winning try.

27th November BRIXHAM 22 DEVONPORT SERVICES 17
Brixham ground out a well deserved victory against an impressive Devonport side on Sunday. The match was played in the autumn sunshine and for a rare treat the young fishermen were able to play on the main pitch. Brixham won the first scrum and the ball was taken on by the forwards, before the backs were released. Chris Delany on the right wing was given the opportunity to stretch his legs and he ran around the outside to touch down in the corner for an unconverted try. Devonport responded quickly, scoring from a rehearsed move. They managed to get the shove on at a scrum close to the touchline and 40m out - the scrum wheeled and the no.8 collected the ball before powering through the first tackler and shrugging off the attentions of 2 others before touching down under the posts for a try which was converted.
Brixham turned up the heat again with the forwards taking the ball on. Most impressive were Alex Mulholland, William Jackson and Oliver Cook. Once within 5m of the tryline, the ball went through the hands of Kieran Avery and Rob McLeod, before Douglas Oakes crashed over for another 5 points. Oakes quickly scored again, this time from 40m out, his speed and step took him around the defence to the corner and back under the posts for a try which McLeod converted.
At the turnaround, Brixham initially kept up the pressure, but then found reverse gear after giving away a number of penalties. Devonport kept the ball tight before kicking for the touchline, several players thought the ball had gone out and started walking, but it remained in play and the Devonport fly-half hacked the ball on, before falling on it as it crossed the tryline. The try wasn't converted, but it did bring Devonport back into the game with about 15 minutes remaining, the score being 17-12.
Sustained effort by the young Brixham players began to bear fruit - a superb run by Jack Brown saw him almost make the corner flag, but an excellent tackle by a Devonport player brought him down short. However, the speed of play caught several Devonport players off-side and Bradleigh Langdon crashed over for the decisive score.
Devonport had the last word though, with Brixham again giving away a soft penalty 20m from their line. One of the Devonport props collected the penalty tap, from which a maul was formed and he was driven over the Brixham line for 5 more points. Well done to both teams for their obvious enthusiasm and efforts. Also well done to the ref for managing to keep the match under control!

13th November BRIXHAM 15 EXETER CHIEFS 37
An outstanding effort by Brixham was not enough to defeat a strong Exeter side in the Devon Cup competition.
Exeter kicked off and the ball was well caught by Rob McLeod - Brixham went on to enjoy the early pressure, with the ball being taken up by the forwards. But from a kick over the top by Brixham, Exeter spun the ball wide and their right winger was too quick for the cover defence and he was able to run in under the posts for a converted try. From the re-start the young fishermen responded with some excellent running by Kieran Avery, Douglas Oakes and Jack Brown, getting to within 5m of the Exeter tryline, before Andre Simonetti was forced into touch. Exeter decided on a short lineout, with only 4 forwards and Brixham were caught out, with several of their forwards not back 10m when the ball was thrown in. From that penalty, Exeter spun the ball wide and again the winger was able to run around the defence for a try under the posts.
Brixham needed a try to get back into the game. Oakes made the most of turnover ball in midfield and was able to dodge the Exeter defence for a much-needed 5 pointer. Avery made a good effort of the conversion, which would have gone over, had it not been for the windy conditions. Brixham's confidence had been boosted and they were awarded a penalty from a mid-field scrum. Oakes made excellent ground and Simonetti was able to touch down after a dive for the ball on the Exeter try-line. Seeing their lead diminish and with half-time approaching, Exeter mounted another charge. Brixham gave away several penalties in their efforts to slow down the Chiefs, but in the end managed to force them into touch and the half-time whistle gave extra relief.
After the turnaround, Brixham got on the front foot with a try by McLeod after a series of forward drives by Alex Mulholland, William Jackson, Michael Ward, Oliver Cook, Amos Sharam and Bradleigh Langdon. Exeter stepped up a gear, deciding now to keep the ball away from the Brixham forwards. Quick ball and off-loads in the tackle saw them stretch Brixham from one side of the field to the other, before a winger found the space to zip through for an unconverted try. The score now was 15-19 to Exeter and the next points were vital. Exeter turned up the heat again and a kick-through was collected by the winger for another try. Good ball handling skills by the Chiefs saw them score twice more to close out the match.

October 16th BRIXHAM 53 PLYMOUTH ARGAUM 12
Plymouth had the first and last word in a match where Brixham reaped the benefits of a large percentage of possession. Unfortunately the team from Plymouth turned up without a full squad, so a number of Brixham players sportingly agreed to take it in turns to swap sides. In fact it was Brixham player Andre Simonetti, playing for Plymouth, who scored first after another Brixham forward, Amos Sharam had made a big hole in the defence!
Brixham struck back after great counter-rucking in midfield by William Jackson. The ball was passed out to Douglas Oakes and his weaving run sent the Plymouth defence in all directions, before he touched down under the posts. Alex Mulholland was the next to score for Brixham after a powerful run by Jack Rainbird, breaking through a number of tackles. Jack Brown crossed the try-line after the ball went through the hands from a lineout just inside the Plymouth half.
Oakes scored again - this time requiring no assistance from the rest of his team! He caught the kick-off and ran past the whole of the Plymouth team to touch down in the corner. Mulholland added another 5 points after peeling off the back of a scrum 20m from the tryline. The 'extras' were added by new fly-half Kieran Avery.
At the turnaround Brixham were running uphill, but still managed to add 4 more tries to the scoresheet. Brown, Simonetti (now back in a Brixham shirt), Allen Davis and Avery all making the most of the possession enjoyed by the young fishermen, (Avery's try converted by Christian Delany).
Plymouth Arguam did not give up at any stage and fought back at the end with a try, after one of their forwards forced his way over in the corner

2nd October BRIXHAM 29 HONITON 14 (Devon Cup Preliminary Round)
Brixham kicked off in the Preliminary Round of the Devon Cup in bright sunshine, against opponents they hadn't met before and it didn't look too promising when Honiton scored almost straightaway from a quick-tap penalty near the middle of the pitch - the no.12 linked up with the right winger who wasn't going to be caught.
Brixham winger Eliot Smith levelled the score, touching down after the ball was spun out from a scrum 20m from the Honiton tryline. Jack Brown converted. Honiton's second try was almost identical to the first - they won a midfield scrum and the ball was passed out to their no.13, who ran around the Brixham defence for a converted try.
Brixham went throught the phases again, with the forwards (Amos Sharom, Ben Weedon, Oliver Cook, William Jackson, Piers Benjamin, Alex Mulholland, Jacob Churchill and Bradleigh Langdon) putting in a huge effort against sizeable opposition, in the end earning a scrum 10m from the Honiton tryline. Douglas Oakes made good ground before the ball found Allen Davis on the left wing and he ran to the corner for 5 more points. Brown made a very good attempt of the conversion, which fell just short. Just before half-time Brixham scrum-half Andre Simonetti crossed the tryline after running from the base of a 10m scrum. Again the conversion narrowly missed.
At the turnaround, the young fishermen had the benefit of the slope and from this point on, the team largely dictated the match, spending most of the time in the Honiton half and putting massive pressure on their opposition. There were tries for William Jackson, who pushed over from a ruck on the tryline and Ben Weedon, who crossed in the corner after backing up the running of Luke Lang and Brown.

25th September TORQUAY 21 BRIXHAM 32
The rain stopped and the sun came out, just in time for Brixham Under 14's to kick off their second match of the season. It was agreed that the match would be played in 4 quarters to allow the coaches to have a look at different combinations, particularly as Brixham has had a boost in the number of players and also have a cup game coming up.

Brixham had the kick off and enjoyed the early pressure. Oliver Cook crossing the tryline in the corner with the assistance of Andre Simonetti, after a series of forward drives by Rob McLeod and Bradleigh Langdon. Jack Brown's conversion had the direction, but fell just short.
Torquay responded from the kick-off and good effort from them saw Brixham give away a couple of penalties which resulted in a 10m lineout. The ball was passed out to the Torquay no. 3, who sprinted in under the posts for a try which was converted. Torquay scored again after taking advantage of a Brixham knock-on in their own half - the Torquay no.22 ran half the length of the field before touching down under the posts, for another converted try.

The young Fishermen went through the phases again, but handling errors under the Torquay posts denied any more points in the second quarter. However they kept up the momentum in the third quarter and Simonetti took a quick-tap penalty 20m from the Torquay line - the ball was taken on by Eliot Smith and William Jackson, before Simonetti was able to claim it again and fly over the tryline, for a try which went unconverted. Brixham finally took a 1 point lead with a great try by Jackson, after good approach work by Simonetti, Brown and Jacob Churchill. Torquay still had plenty of gas in the tank though and after winning a scrum in their own half, the ball found possibly the fastest player on the pitch - their no. 3, who proved uncatchable with a great run in under the posts and another converted try.

Moving in to the last quarter of the match, Brixham were trailing 15-21 and needed inspiration. Fortunately the extra fitness training began to pay off and the forwards won 4 scrums in a row, against the head. Jack Brown ran some great angles for a try under the posts, which he also converted. This put Brixham 1 point ahead with 10 minutes to play, but with their scrum in the ascendency, they had plenty of ball. An excellent run by new recruit Amos Sharom was finished by Langdon for another 5 pointer. Torquay did not give up however and the Brixham supporters breathed a sigh of relief when winger Eliot Smith crossed the line for a try to close out the game.

September 11th BRIXHAM 29 IVYBRIDGE 10
Brixham's opening game of this season was against an Ivybridge team that had beaten them twice last season. This time Brixham were fully prepared and had a game plan which centred on the driving play of the forwards and full commitment at the rucks, to slow the opposition ball. Despite playing into the breeze, excellent pressure by the young Fishermen found William Jackson in space and he was able to sprint in under the posts for Brixham's first try, which was converted by Jack Brown.
The second try came after the re-start was collected and taken up by Bradleigh Langdon, Alex Mulholland, Rob McLeod and Oliver Cook. The ball was passed out to Douglas Oakes, who made excellent ground, before finding Eliot Smith on the right wing. He ran around the defence for a try in the corner. Brown made a good attempt at the conversion, which bounced off an upright.
Ivybridge altered their re-start and a much longer kick, helped by the wind, found touch deep in the Brixham half. A loose line-out ball was pounced on by the Ivybridge forwards and they drove it over the tryline for their first five-pointer. Ivybridge's confidence was starting to return and Brixham started to give away penalties. Ivy held onto the ball for a period of time and pressured the Brixham line, but good work by Luke Lang, who gathered the ball and got through several tackles, gave Brixham some relief.

At the turnaround, Brixham had the wind behind them. After re-gathering the ball, Brown and Andre Simonetti made good ground and sucked in the defence leaving Allen Davis in space - he made light work of the short sprint to the tryline. Douglas Oakes was the next to score for Brixham after a superb run from the half-way line. Ivybridge retaliated with try by their no.8 off the back of a scrum. Simonetti had the last word for Brixham after they won a 5m scrum and he slipped through the defence.

MATCH REPORTS 2010/11 (Under 13s)

10th April 2010 Devon Under 13s Festival
Cup: Barnstaple beat Sidmouth
Plate: Brixham beat Exeter Saracens

Brixham Rugby Club staged the Devon Under 13's Sevens tournament for the first time on Sunday and it was a great success, with over 20 teams competing from around the region. Brixham entered a team and enjoyed a very successful afternoon, winning the Plate competition by a convincing margin.

The day started with a tough pool game against Topsham. Brixham were leading 21-7 at half time after tries by Andre Simonetti, Alex Mulholland and Bradleigh Langdon. At the turnaround Jack Brown crossed for another 7 points, but then Topsham fought back, putting 5 unanswered tries past Brixham to win 28-40.

Brixham played Exeter Chiefs next, a team they had to beat to stand any chance of reaching the playoffs. This was a very tight match, with both teams scoring 3 tries each (for Brixham, Brown touched down twice, with Simonetti scoring the other), the only difference was that Brown managed to convert all of the tries, wheras Exeter narrowly missed one, to leave the score at 21-19 to Brixham. Having won a match and lost one, it was calculated that Brixham had to score 13 tries in the next match to be able to get into the playoffs on points difference.

Brixham were determined to progress and the unlucky team they met in the next round was Plymouth Argaum, who seemed shell shocked as Brixham ran past them or through them to touch down an incredible 14 times in as many minutes. Tries were scored by Brown (5), Luke Lang (3), Simonetti (3), Mulholland (2) and McLeod.

Having pushed out Exeter Chiefs with a superb performance against Argaum, the young fishermen found themselves playing a very strong Tavistock side, with the teams taking it in turns to score. Tries for Langdon, Brown (2) and Simonetti put them 28-17 up in the closing stages of the match and only desperate defence by Brown, Simonetti and Langdon prevented Tavistock adding to their tally.

In the final of the Plate competition, Brixham met Exeter Saracens. This was nail-biting stuff, with both teams fully committed. They traded tries until just after half time, with Brixham having the legs in the end to close out the game 35-21. Brixham try scorers were Langdon, Simonetti, Mulholland, William Jackson and Lang. Conversions were taken by Jack Brown.

Many congratulations lads on your excellent teamwork and skill.

3rd April 2011 BRIXHAM 31 NORTH DORSET 12
Brixham Under 13's played a touring side from North Dorset on Sunday. This was the first time the teams had met and it made for a very interesting game of rugby, with the touring side possessing a talented fly-half and centres, but they were starved of quality ball by the dominance of the Brixham forwards, both at the set-piece and at the rucks.
North Dorset kicked off and earned themselves a promising platform for their attack after the ball was knocked on deep in the Brixham half, but the young Fishermen won that scrum against the head and they ran the ball, with great work by Andre Simonetti, Bradleigh Langdon and Jack Brown. Brixham's first try came from a scrum in midfield and a run by Simonetti which was carried on by Oliver Cook. Simonetti collected again for a try under the posts. Jack Brown drop-kicked the conversion.
North Dorset came close to scoring themselves after a kick over the top of the defence. Brixham scrambled back and Brown passed out to Langon and Rob McLeod before the ball found Eliot Smith on the wing, who was able to run 2/3rds of the pitch to touch down in the corner.

It was 12-0 to Brixham at the turnaround and they kicked off, running uphill this time. North Dorset kicked the ball back, deep into the Brixham half, trying to force the error. Powerful running by Simonetti, Alex Mulholland and William Jackson took the ball back to their opponents and a neat off-load gave Brown the space to run through the remaining defence for a try he also converted.
Brixham scrum-half Sam Clarke was the next to score from a scrum 15m from the Dorset line - he made a great dummy pass, before sprinting back inside and touching down beneath the posts. Simonetti notched up a second try after good work by the forwards, Brown's attempted conversion hitting the left hand upright. At 31-0 up, Brixham backed off a little and in doing so, let Dorset back into the game, who earned themselves good field position via a penalty kick. Brixham won the the lineout, but excellent pressure by Dorset saw them charge down the clearance kick and drop on the ball behind the try-line. The conversion was well taken from out wide. Dorset came on again and scored from a lineout 20m from the Brixham line, a centre bursting through tackles to touch down in the corner.
Brixham had the last word though and closed out the game with a series of energy-sapping forward drives, eventually crossing the tryline, but unfortunately the ball was held up.

13th March 2011 BRIXHAM 27 CREDITON 22
Brixham bounced back from defeat last week to overcome an ambitious and creative Crediton side, a match played at Astley Park under bright sunshine. Crediton kicked off and the ball found it's way to Brixham winger Eliot Smith who made excellent ground on the right hand wing. The ball was taken on by Bradleigh Langdon and Andre Simonetti, before William Jackson dived over the tryline from the ruck.
Brixham's second try came after the young fishermen patiently went through the phases, with superb rucking and driving by the forwards, Rob McLeod receiving the ball from a ruck 5 metres from the tryline, barging through tacklers to touch down. Crediton woke up at this point and decided to keep the ball away from the Brixham forwards as much as possible - bringing their very quick centres and wingers into play. Their left winger almost made the tryline before being tackled into touch. Brixham won the lineout, but a knock-on behind the tryline was pounced on by Crediton for their first try. Brixham were the next to score after winning a scrum against the head, after great hooking by Ben Weedon. Simonetti playing at no.8 collected the ball and several tacklers as he crossed the tryline.
Crediton came back after winning the next scrum in the middle of the pitch. The ball was kicked over the top and a Crediton centre kicked it on before falling on it behind the tryline. Crediton were now in the ascendency and good pressure enabled them to capitalize on Brixham mistakes, only try-saving tackles by Christian Delany, Dan Gayden and Langdon prevented them adding to their score. At the turnaround Brixham were 5 points ahead at 15-10.

Brixham kicked off the second half and great pressure by the forwards forced a penalty which was run by Jackson and Oliver Cook. Great defence on the tryline by Crediton forced Brixham to pass the ball wide - it found McLeod in front of the posts and he bulldozed his way over for a try which was converted by Jack Brown. Simonetti added another try to his tally after Alex Mulholland won a lineout in the Crediton half. He made a lot of ground before being tackled and the ball came back for Simonetti to run through the remaining defence.
Crediton were not finished though and went on to score two more tries, the first from a re-start and the second after working their way through the phases and a touch down under the posts for a try which was converted. Brixham handled the next re-start well and went on to close out a very exciting match.

6th March 2011 BRIXHAM 18 EXETER CHIEFS 31
Brixham bowed out of the Devon Plate after a loss in the semi-final to a competitive Exeter Chiefs side at St. Lukes College. An excellent game, well refereed, during which both sides gave 100%.
Exeter kicked off and re-established control of the ball before a series of forward drives gave earned them a ruck 5m from the Brixham line. The ball was passed out to the largest player on the pitch, who proved unstoppable from such a short distance. Brixham got back into the game almost straightaway after winning a scrum in the Exeter half. A quick tap penalty was taken and the ball was passed out to Eliot Smith on the right wing, he almost made the Exeter tryline before being tackled. The ball was knocked on though and Exeter won the resulting scrum. The clearing kick however didn't go quite as planned, flying across the pitch diagonally before bouncing back towards the Exeter tryline. Brixham forward Alex Mulholland got there first and after a series of rucks which sucked in the defence, the ball went wide again to Smith, who sprinted to the opposite corner to level the scores. Jack Brown made a very good attempt of the conversion, which was just short.
Exeter kicked off again and Brixham made a much better job of controlling the re-start. Some powerful running by William Jackson and Douglas Oakes earned the young Fishermen a penalty in front of the Exeter posts and they decided to take the 3 points on offer, with a kick by Brown. Exeter replied with a well-worked try via their speedy winger who ran in under the posts, which made the score 12-8 to the Chiefs at half-time.
Brixham kicked off the second half and did well to retrieve the ball before making excellent ground from a rolling maul. Unfortunately they couldn't get the ball to the back of the maul at a time to suit the ref and Exeter won the resulting scrum. The ball was passed out and a centre had the pace and step to elude the Brixham defence, for a try under the posts. Brixham responded via their forwards and a series of drives by Jackson, Rob McLeod, Bradleigh Langdon and Josh Rogers gave them the field position for Andre Simonetti to sprint over the line, shrugging off tackles. The next two tries were vital and both were scored by the same Exeter centre, the first from turnover ball in midfield and the second from missed tackles, one of the tries was converted.
Brixham didn't give up though and the forwards kept up the pressure. A series of penalties awarded in their favour gave Brixham the field position for Rogers to power his way over the line for a further 5 points.

20th February 2011 TORQUAY 17 BRIXHAM 24
Brixham had been without a match for several weeks, so another game with Torquay was hastily arranged. This would be their third meeting this season, played this time on Torquay's main pitch, on a damp and overcast morning. Brixham had won the first two matches by a good margin; this game, however, was to be a much more even contest. As the game unfolded, it appeared that the Tics coaches had done wonders with the scrum, which once first gear was engaged, only moved forward. A much more committed defence, especially in the midfield, also gave the young Fishermen something to think about, particularly as they were missing two or three of their more experienced players. Brixham still enjoyed good territory and possession, but quite often would see themselves lose ground due to a penalty awarded against them.
Torquay kicked off and Brixham started brightly with the ball being spun out early to Bradleigh Langdon, Douglas Oakes and Eliot Smith. The winger made excellent ground, but a knock on in the tackle 5m from the Tics tryline gave Torquay a put-in to their own scrum and hopefully a safe clearance. Brixham had other ideas though, taking Torquay by surprise and pushing them off their own ball. Great hooking by Ben Weedon enabled Sam Clarke the scrum half to put in a quick pass to Smith, who was able to sprint to the try line, crossing it with a couple of Torquay players attached.
Torquay replied with a near identical try a few minutes later. The captain, Sam Daly collected an off-load and crashed over the Brixham line to bring the scores level. Gaining confidence, Torquay scored again under the posts after great pressure by their forwards to put them 5 points clear.
Brixham went back to the basics and built a good attacking position after some excellent running by Oakes and Smith. Torquay won the resulting scrum, but as they passed the ball down the line, Andre Simonetti was able to rip it back and sprint to the tryline. This levelled the scores at 10 all. Brixham fly-half Jack Brown touched down next after his inspirational running caused havoc in the Tics defence, this after great build-up work by Oakes. Brown converted his own try.
Not to be outdone, Torquay answered with a great try of their own after winning a scrum in their own half. The no.3 had the speed to run outside the Brixham defence, into the corner and then back under the posts for a converted try.
The young Fishermen perservered and a big tackle at the right time by Simonetti forced a loose pass which Brixham were able to pick up. Simonetti was involved again with a powerful run before off-loading to Oakes for a try under the posts. Brown converted to leave the scores at 24-17 to Brixham, who managed to close out the game in the dying minutes.

16th January 2011 IVYBRIDGE 26 BRIXHAM 5
A great all round team effort by Brixham could not deny Ivybridge a victory, although in terms of limiting their opponent's scoring chances, Brixham provided a much improved display. The pack had their way at scrum-time, whereas Ivy's lineout proved dominant. Ivybridge kicked off into a strong breeze and for most of the first half, the teams were roughly equal and fully committed in defence and attack. Only one try was scored in this half and that was by Ivybridge - after winning a lineout in the Brixham half, the ball went down the line, where a centre found enough space to squeeze through for a try under the posts.
This seemed to give the Ivybridge forwards a bit more confidence and constant pressure by them forced the ball downfield on a couple of occasions and only good kicks downwind from the Brixham tryline by Jack Brown and Andre Simonetti prevented tries for Ivy.

The second half brought a new referree to the field and this provided more structure to the game, particularly at the breakdown. Ivybridge scored twice more in the corner after quick ball was fed out to the backs - one of which the fly-half did well to convert. At no point did Brixham give up and they got back into the game after a fantastic run by centre Douglas Oakes - the young Fishermen were able to set up camp 10m from the Ivy try-line and William Jackson received the ball from a ruck - he powered through two tackles and touched down for Brixham's first points.
Ivybridge kept going and earned themselves another converted try after good linking between their forwards and backs.

January 9th 2011 BRIXHAM 56 PLYMSTOCK ALBION OAKS 5
Plymstock met Brixham on the return leg for a game played on a firm pitch and bright sunshine. From the kick-off, Brixham made the most of their possession and got within striking distance of the Plymstock line, only to lose the ball in contact. Plymstock ran it back and only some excellent tackling by Jack Brown, playing at fly-half, prevented a try straightaway. However, lack of control at the breakdown by Brixham allowed the Oaks to regain possession - an overlap and quick hands gave their winger the space to touch down in the corner. Although Plymstock did threaten on several occasions later in the match, this was to be their only score. The Oaks enjoyed an obvious advantage at scrum-time, but fortunately for Brixham, the large forwards lacked the mobility to compete effectively at the rucks, allowing Brixham to attack at will.
Brixham's first try came from great running by Eliot Smith and Jack Brown, forward William Jackson burst from a ruck to touch down beneath the posts. Bradleigh Langdon scored again, almost straight from the kick-off, after finding a big hole in the Plymstock defence. Brown took advantage after the Oaks had a string of off-side penalties awarded against them, a neat dummy pass let him through the gap and the cover defence couldn't catch him.
The young Fishermen's next try came from a well weighted kick by Langdon. Although it bounced, Smith was able to collect it at pace and run back under the posts. Excellent pressure on his counterpart by scrum-half Sam Clarke, forced a loose pass which he was able to chip on. Brixham forward Josh Rogers kept the ball moving despite the efforts of 2 defenders, before Jackson was able to take it over the line.
After the turnaround Brixham centre Douglas Oakes touched down after a great run from the half-way line. The Plymstock defence was now becoming a little narrow and Rob McLeod scored twice after overlaps were generated. Clarke scored after good work on the right wing by Tom Davies and Jackson touched down again after bursting through several tackles. Conversions were taken by Jack Brown.

12th December 2010 BRIXHAM 44 TORQUAY 5
Almost a re-run of the away fixture of 3 weeks ago - the Brixham forwards building a good platform, from which the backs prospered, the team coming away with an 8-try haul. Torquay kicked off and the ball was well caught by Brixham forward William Jackson, who made good ground before off-loading to Luke Lang. After several missed tackles, he was able to pass to fly-half Jack Brown for Brixham's first try. Lang was also involved in Brixham's second try, after he popped in mid-field to provide the link between the forwards and fellow winger Eliot Smith, who was able to sprint to the left hand corner.
Smith scored again after Andre Simonetti, playing at scrum-half, pinched a loose ball which flew out of a Torquay scrum, the ball being passed down the line, finding Smith in space. Simonetti put another 5 points on the board after Torquay again had trouble controlling the ball at the back of their scrum, unfortunately it was too close to their try-line and Simonetti couldn't be stopped from 10m out. After the turnaround, Ben Jackson touched down for a Torquay try after an excellent run from mid-field. Torquay came again and only a tackle by full-back Christian Delaney on the try-line prevented another score. The Brixham forwards regrouped and continued to exert pressure. Rob McLeod crossed the line twice, Jackson crossed for his second and Bradleigh Langdon, playing at outside centre for a change, scored after an excellent run by Sam Clarke. Although he didn't score today, centre Douglas Oakes set up at least two tries and tackled anything that moved. Flanker Ben Weedon was also unlucky to score - getting to within sniffing distance of the try-line on 3 occasions. Conversions were taken by Simonetti.

5th December 2010 BRIXHAM 24 NEWTON ABBOT 31
A great game of rugby, well refereed and played in good spirit, with the ball being run from all corners of the pitch! The Brixham forwards more than held their own against their (very large) counterparts and there wasn't much to separate the teams, the scores being level with a minute to full-time, Brixham losing in the end to a last minute try after a counter-attack by the All Whites.
Brixham were the first to score after some excellent running by Jack Brown and Douglas Oakes. The ball was taken on by the forwards and Rob McLeod managed to force his way over the whitewash. Newton came back almost straightaway after winning a loose ball in midfield, this was passed wide, where they had the numbers and space to make a try inevitable. Newton Abbot scored again after some good build-up play by their powerful forwards, before the ball was released to a centre, who found some space to work his way through the defence for a try beneath the posts. The young Fishermen turned the tide after a great run by winger Eliot Smith, he was eventually forced into touch very close to the Newton try-line. The All Whites won the lineout, but McLeod, who was having an excellent game, forced a penalty after he attempted to rip the ball from a tackled Newton player. The ball was passed down the line and Luke Lang was able to sprint the short distance to the tryline. That try was converted by Andre Simonetti and the scores at half-time were 12-14 to Newton Abbot.
After the break, the teams took it in turns to score - the All Whites first-off after some great forward pressure sucked in the Brixham defence, again giving them numbers outside - some good ball-handling and Newton were 7 points up. Brixham increased their efforts and some powerful running by William Jackson and Alex Mulholland earned them a scrum 5m from the Newton try-line. Brixham won the scrum and no.8 Piers Benjamin peeled off the back, helped over the line by flanker Ben Weedon. Newton scored again after their forwards generated another overlap, before Jackson brought Brixham back into the game with a try that Simonetti did well to convert. That brought the scores to 24 all.
Brixham threatened again and forced a 22-dropout kick. From the resulting lineout, Newton did well to work a try in the last minute of the game via one of their centres. This time though, Brixham couldn't retaliate, the final whistle blew as the conversion sailed through the uprights!

21st November 2010 TORQUAY 5 BRIXHAM 43

Brixham travelled to Torquay to play a side that they hadn't met for some time and Torquay started brightly, making several good runs, before the ball was ripped back by Andre Simonetti, playing at scrum-half. He passed out to Douglas Oakes and Luke Lang crossed the line for Brixham's first points. Oakes was next to touchdown after a great individual run up the centre. The young Fishermen's third try came after a superb run by forward William Jackson. This resulted in a scrum 5m from the Torquay line - Brixham captain Bradleigh Langdon picked up the ball and off-loaded to Simonetti, who was able to sprint in under the posts.

Torquay came back into the game after Brixham's discipline became a little suspect and a succession of penalties in Torquay's favour saw one of their large forwards crash over the line from short range. After half-time Brixham kept up the momentum, despite the stop-start nature of the game. Langdon scored after picking up a ball at the back of a scrum from a Torquay put-in and more forward pressure allowed Rob McLeod to rip the ball and touch down for another 5 points. Brixham winger Eliot Smith scored another great try after a superb one-handed catch and individual run up the left hand wing. Langdon finished off the mornings work after another powerful run by Jackson. Conversions were taken by Jack Brown playing at fly-half.

7th November 2010 IVYBRIDGE 51 BRIXHAM 15
Brixham travelled down to Ivy's Filham pitch for a match against a well-drilled team and with several players trying new positions, Brixham struggled to get into their usual rhythm, particularly against a rush defence which verged on the off-side. The Brixham forwards held their own during the lineouts and edged them at scrums, but couldn't match Ivy for their work in the loose and they were soon 3-0 up after winning a penalty in front of the Brixham posts. From a scrum in their own half, Ivybridge launched an attack up the left wing, for a try which was well converted. More pressure from the Ivy forwards after a kick over the top of the defence gave them another 7 points. While Ivy had a breather, Brixham won a scrum in their half and the ball was picked up by Bradleigh Langdon - a quick sprint and a dive over the line and Brixham were back in the game.. Things were gelling a bit better now for the young Fishermen and from better rucking, the ball was whipped out to winger Eliot Smith who was unmarked on his left wing and he crossed the line for an unconverted try that brought the team back into the match at 17-10. Ivybridge decided that they needed to go through the gears again and a great run an off-load by a centre saw them increase their score to 24-10.

Half time and Brixham were now running uphill, with the breeze against them. Ivybridge added 3 more tries to their tally before the ref decided that he had had enough of their no.8 infringing in the rucks and showed him the yellow card. The Brixham forwards took advantage and worked the ball up the left hand side of the pitch, from which Harvey Bevan-Jones was able to crash over for a try in the corner. Jack Brown was unlucky on the kick - missing the crossbar by inches. Ivy went on to score a couple more tries, one after a drive from a lineout and the other from a run up the right wing.

31st October 2010 KINGSBRIDGE 15 BRIXHAM 5
Brixham travelled to High House at Kingsbridge for probably the toughest game of the season so far, with both defences fully committed. The wet conditions didn't suit attractive running rugby, but this didn't stop both teams passing the ball out as soon as they could, although this did result in numerous handling errors and lost opportunities. Brixham enjoyed an edge for most of the match when it came to the scrums and their rucking was excellent, but Kingsbridge made the most of the ball when they had it and did well to manufacture several overlaps.
Luckily Brixham full-back Jack Brown was on top form and made at least 3 try-saving tackles. Despite getting within sniffing distance of the Kings line on several occasions, Brixham were 10-0 down at half-time. After the break they had the benefit of the slope and continued to test the Kingbridge defence. New Brixham forward Michael Ward made an immediate impression and an excellent scrummage saw Brixham captain Bradleigh Langdon collect the ball and run wide to link up with winger Eliot Smith, who sprinted into the corner. The momentum of the match seemed to be swinging in favour of the young Fishermen, but turnover ball for Kingsbridge saw them pass the ball out quickly to unmarked players on the right wing and a try which sealed the match.

23rd October 2010 PAIGNTON 34 BRIXHAM 22
Brixham Under 13's travelled to Paignton to play a 'curtain raiser' game for the First XV's match later that afternoon. It was the third time these teams have met this season and although this was a higher scoring match than the last one, it was close until the last 10 minutes.
Paignton were the first to score after making the most of some excellent pressure from the kick-off. Brixham responded almost straightaway with an excellent run by Oliver Cook, who off-loaded to winger Eliot Smith to level the scores at 5 points each. Further pressure by Brixham saw them awarded a penalty 5m from the try-line - the ball was spun out to find Rob McLeod who touched down for a try that Andre Simonetti did well to convert. Paignton outside centre Conor Harrison brought the teams back to level pegging after a snaking run in the wider channels. After more pressure, the Cherries were awarded a penalty in front of the posts and they decided to take the 3 points, putting them 15-12 ahead at half-time.
There was still everything to play for and from the kick-off the young Fishermen seemed intent on closing out the game. They made the most of a scrum 5m from the Paignton try-line. Bradleigh Langdon playing at no.8 picked up the ball and ran wide past two defenders, before cutting back inside to touch down. Brixham kept up the pressure, the ball being passed out to winger Christian Delany, who scored probably the try of the match after a fantastic run up the left hand wing before diving into the corner, to make the score 22-15 in Brixham's favour.
These two quick scores didn't seem to deter Paignton, who kept up the pressure and made the most of any small errors that Brixham made. The Cherries went on to score three more tries, one from each wing and the third from a 5m scrum. Two of the tries were converted to leave them 22-34 winners.

17th October 2010 PLYMSTOCK 5 BRIXHAM 48
Brixham made the journey to Plymstock for a game played in ideal conditions - bright sun and cool air. As the game unfolded, it appeared that the training sessions have paid off - Brixham's defence was solid and the forwards provided quality possession for the backs, with Andre Simonetti at fly-half putting in some excellent passes and dummies to release his centres. The Plymstock scrum was very powerful, particularly in the first half, but the forwards lacked the mobility to compete effectively at the rucks, allowing Brixham's attack free-reign - nearly all of the tries were scored by either a winger or a centre. Jack Brown at full-back was the first to score after a blistering run up the left hand wing, touching down within a minute of kick-off. Douglas Oakes launched an attack from his own half and several missed tackles later, was touching down between the posts. Tom Davies on the right hand wing was kept busy - scoring one try and collecting a kick from Simonetti, before popping the ball up for Eliot Smith to touch down.
William Jackson, playing at outside centre, put in a fantastic run from his own half, powering through half a dozen tackles to add another 5 points and an easy conversion. Scrum-half Sam Clarke got on the end of a slick move and dived into the corner for his score, whilst Luke Lang on the left wing came back inside and broke through 3 attempted tackles to touch down behind the posts. Rob McLeod playing at no.8 during the second half, peeled off the back of a 5m scrum and dived over the line with a defender attached to finish off a great team effort. Conversions were by Simonetti and Clarke.

10th October 2010 BRIXHAM 38 DEVONPORT SERVICES 8
Brixham beat a competitive Devonport Services team with a 6 try haul. Brixham won the toss and elected to play downhill with the wind behind them for the first half, probably a good move taking into account the strong breeze, but it did mean that they were under some pressure to put a decent number of points on the board to withstand a possible second half fightback by the opposition. The kick-off was well caught by full-back Jack Brown, who immediately put Devonport under pressure with a great run into their half. Brixham had the more powerful scrum, but Devonport's lineout was very accurate. Brixham were awarded a penalty after lack of binding at the scrum, allowing Christian Delaney, Luke Lang and Ben Weedon to make excellent ground, before the ball found Andre Simonetti who touched down under the posts. The young Fishermen scored again via Oliver Cook after winning a 5m lineout, to make it 14-0 at the turnaround.

Brixham were now playing into the wind, but with more confidence. A cross-field kick by Simonetti found winger Sam Clarke. The ball was taken on by Bradleigh Langdon and off-loaded to Rob McCleod, who wasn't going to be stopped at that close range. Brixham's 4th try came after a fantastic run by centre Douglas Oakes. He was tackled in the opposition 22, but managed to pop the ball up for Simonetti who was running at full pace and touched down under the posts. Just when the game was looking a little one-sided, Devonport won a lineout and found some space on the right wing for a try which went unconverted. Cook added a second try to his tally with a powerful drive after catching a 5m lineout, taking the score to 33-5. Devonport made the most of a penalty award in front of the posts to add a further 3 points from a well-struck penalty kick. Continued pressure from Brixham saw them win a 5m scrum from which McCleod crossed the line. In the closing minutes Josh Rogers came close to scoring, as did new Brixham forward Alex Mulholland. Conversions were taken by Simonetti.

26th September 2010 PAIGNTON 0 BRIXHAM 17

Brixham Under 13's coaches were impressed with an excellent team effort, after a determined performance saw the young Fishermen defeat the home side in an exciting encounter, which was not as one-sided as the scoreline suggests. This was a big game for Brixham, having lost the last 2 matches against this team, most recently just 2 weeks ago. The Brixham backs thrived during a game dominated by their forwards strength at scrum-time and also during the lineout. Centre Rob McCleod bagged two tries and fly-half Andre Simonetti the third. Special mention of a returning Brixham player, Christian Delany, who made 3 excellent runs on the wing and full-back Jack Brown for great hands under the high ball and for converting a long-distance kick. Paignton played well, but couldn't take their chances as they had before - they had a try held-up over the line and also narrowly missed a penalty kick.

12th September 2010 Brixham 10 Paignton 19
A great game of rugby played in summer-like conditions, with two teams varying their tactics and focusing their energies on defending a full-size pitch. Recent games between these teams have been very close, with Paignton generally coming out on top and this one was no different, although the young Fishermen did enjoy the lead for a good part of the game, the Cherries managed to add an extra try towards the end of the match.
The two teams were sounding each other out before Brixham opened the scoring after a great run by full-back Jack Brown. The ball was taken on by Bradleigh Langdon and Allen Davis before Andre Simonetti dived over from a ruck close to the corner flag. Paignton came back into the game after a clearance kick was gathered and passed out to the winger, who had plenty of space to run around the last defender. Brixham had another opportunity to score after a great catch at a lineout by Piers Benjamin, good passing between Douglas Oakes, Jack Brown, Harvey Bevan-Jones, Oliver Cook, William Jackson and Sam Clarke got them close to the try-line, before the ball was forced into touch.
After half-time, Brixham had the benefit of the slope and more forward pressure allowed centre Rob McCleod to push over the line for another 5 pointer. At this point the young Fishermen seemed to be dominant, but Paignton took their chance after a clearance kick was fielded well and run back with interest. Brown made a good tackle, but the ball was off-loaded leading to a try under the posts. At 10-12 to Paignton, there was still everything to play for and Brixham had several opportunities to finish off the game, only for a knock-on or penalty to slow them down, but the next try was Paignton's after their fly-half ran wide and passed to the winger, who cut back inside for a try under the posts. Brixham kept their composure and kept fighting but were just unable to finish off with a score.

Brixham Under 13's are currently seeking new players. No experience required - just enthusiasm and commitment. Call head coach Steve Jackson on 07771 907490 for more details.

5th Sept 2010 Brixham v Ivybridge

MATCH REPORTS 2009/10 (Under 12s)

18th April 2010 Kingsbridge under 12s Festival
On a beautiful sunny morning (and with a rock hard pitch!) Brixham under 12s once again found that their team is not best suited to festival rugby where the small pitches and short games generally favour the bigger teams.
The first pool match was against Okehampton. Brixham had the slope in their favour in the first half but despite lots of pressure were unable to score and went in 0--0 at half time. The big Okehampton forwards managed to cross the Brixham try line twice in the second half to give a final score of 14--0.
Brixham made four changes for the second game which was against Tavistock. Despite never giving up the game ended in a 49--7 loss with Piers Benjamin scoring what would be Brixham's only try of the tournament (and which was converted by Sam Clarke).
The third and final game was against Newton Abbot which was lost 21--0.

4th April 2010 Brixham 12 Tamworth 33
Brixham played a very competitive touring team and lost out to a streetwise side, who were particularly efficient in the loose.
Although missing several more seasoned team members due to either the holidays or injury, the young Fishermen still enjoyed the early pressure and after excellent ripping of the ball by Brixham captain Andre Simonetti, got within spitting distance of the try-line, unfortunately a penalty against them allowed Tamworth to kick downfield. Brixham still had possession, but lost it on the right hand wing, against the run of play. The defence wasn't organized and this allowed the Tamworth winger a direct run to the Brixham tryline, before off-loading to a large forward to crash over.
This score no doubt boosted the visitors confidence and they started to play a wider game, crossing the line 4 more times. The Brixham scrum, powered by Harvey Bevan-Jones, Ben Weedon, Oliver Cook, William Jackson, Josh Rogers and Piers Benjamin was the stronger of the two, and even won a couple of balls against the put-in. The backs made good use of it and there was strong running by Simonetti, Douglas Oakes, Luke Lang, Tom Davies and Sam Clarke. Jack Brown at fullback was targeted with several high balls, but always gathered and ran them back with interest.
During the early part of the second half, Brixham increased their work-rate and were rewarded with a penalty 5m from the Tamworth line. Bevan-Jones was chosen to run the ball and despite the best efforts of Tamworth, he was able to cross the line, for a try which went unconverted. Luke Lang ran in Brixham's second try after some good tackling in midfield and quick ball. It was converted by Simonetti.

21st March 2010 WELLINGTON 14 BRIXHAM 14
Brixham played with determination against Wellington. William Jackson scored the first try of the match as he powered over the Wellington Line. This was converted by Sam Clark who successfully converted all the tries of the day. Wellington answered back with a try and a conversion. However soon afterwards Brixham full-back Jack Brown had a great run the length of the pitch to put another one down for Brixham. There was some good pressure from the Brixham forwards - Bradley Langdon, Josh Rogers, Harvey Bevan-Jones, Ben Weedon and Piers Benjamin. There were some good runs by Andre Simonetti, Luke Lang and Eliot Smith but Wellington were fighting back and after a Brixham throw in, a loose ball bounced over the Brixham try line - Brixham thought it was a dead ball but Wellington went for the touch and were awarded the try, to bring the scores level.
NEWTON ABBOT v BRIXHAM 40-14
Newton piled the pressure on from the start. Newton had great power in their forwards and had something to prove to Brixham, after having lost the last 3 games to them. They scored 6 tries and converted 5, to leave Brixham reeling. The young Fishermen answered back in the second half with 2 great tries, one from Simonetti and one from Benjamin, both converted by Clark. Unfortunately Langdon was injured and the team were also missing a couple of proven performers, so struggled to close the gap any further.

14th March 2010
Brixham travelled down to the Devonport Services ground for a mini tournament involving Devonport and Plymstock Albion Oaks. Each team played 2 games of a 20 minute duration and Brixham won both by the same margin, 28-0.
The young Fishermen played Plymstock first and good scrummaging by the Brixham forwards - Ben Weedon, Oliver Cook, Harvey Bevan-Jones, Allen Davis, William Jackson and Bradleigh Langdon, released the backline, with Luke Lang bursting through several tackles before putting the ball down - unfortunately the tryline was poorly marked and he had put the ball down behind the dead ball line - so it was back to the drawing board! Brixham captain Andre Simonetti collected the re-start and a good run by him and then Rob McLeod set up scrum-half Jacob Churchill for the team's first try.
Another powerful Brixham scrum set up Lang for a run through the midfield before Jackson collected the ball from the back of a ruck and ploughed through the remaining defence for Brixham's second try. The third try came from a long kick by Simonetti - the chase was good and pressure by Cook and Davis saw McLeod receive the ball and shrug off a couple of tackles before touching down. The final try was scored after a drive up the middle by the forwards, the ball was spun out to winger Eliot Smith and his acceleration took him past the cover defence. Conversions were by Simonetti.
The second game was against a very useful Devonport side, who had previously also beaten Plymstock. This team were harder to break down and the first third of the game was played near the centre of the pitch, with both teams trying to find a way through. Brixham's first opportunity came after they were awarded a penalty - Jackson received the ball and his run was unstoppable after he had built up a head of steam. Brixham were another 7 points up after Bevan-Jones received a free kick - he made a great run and great presentation of the ball allowed Simonetti to collect quickly and touch down.
Jack Brown had a good game at full-back and he linked well with Sam Clarke and Douglas Oakes. Great running lines by them set up Churchill for a sprint to the corner for Brixham's third try. Langdon was also working hard - he charged down a kick which was received by Oakes - who crossed the line but was held up. Brixham won the resulting 5m scrum and quick hands by Brown and winger Tom Davies released Bevan-Jones, whose surging run was not going to be stopped (although six Devonport players did try). Conversions were kicked by Simonetti, Clarke and Brown.

7th March 2010 Torquay 0 Brixham 12
The young Fishermen edged out the home side in a tight encounter - a match which was dominated by the forward play of both sides. This was the first game the team had played with 15 a side - two of them were playing out of position. Brixham captain Andre Simonetti and Rob McCleod who usually play fly-half and outside centre respectively, became flankers, joining Ben Weedon, Harvey Bevan-Jones, Oliver Cook, William Jackson, Piers Benjamin, Bradleigh Langdon, Josh Rogers and Jack Minchin - Brixham certainly had the stronger scrum, winning several balls against the put-in. The tackling from both sides was excellent, with defences quickly into position, shutting down the channels outside the centre. The first try was 20 minutes in coming and was against the run of play, with Torquay enjoying a period of pressure. Simonetti was able to rip the ball and break out of the Brixham 22 with a great run upfield, he was tackled, but the ball was taken on by Jacob Churchill and Douglas Oakes, before being recycled quickly for Simonetti to sprint to the line. The try was converted by fly-half Sam Clarke.
The game was still very close during the second half with both teams threatening the tryline, only for a knock-on or penalty to spoil their chances. But Brixham were now playing with more confidence and their second try came after superb forward pressure up the left hand wing, with the ball being run by Langdon and McCleod. Benjamin collected and shrugged off several tackles before crossing the Torquay whitewash, for a try which went unconverted.
The Tics did not give up and there was plenty of time left in the second half for a score or two, but as the game opened up, the Brixham wingers were able to stretch their legs, Luke Lang, Eliot Smith, Tom Davies and Jack Brown all made good runs and helped to make sure the rest of the game was played in the Torquay half.

28th Feb 2010 Brixham 0 Barnstaple 21
All credit to Barnstaple who made the long trip down from North Devon and were still able to play with such confidence and energy. The damage was done in the first half, with the young Fishermen unprepared for the onslaught from the Barum forwards and the width the backs were happy to work with. At one stage the ball went from one side of the field to the other and back again, before the winger found the space needed to accelerate and dodge the cover defence.
The Brixham scrum however, was more powerful and won a couple of balls against the head, but Barnstaple's lineout was working well and they scored again via a centre, after the ball was won deep in the Brixham half. Barnstaple's third try came from quick ball in the centre of the pitch, the ball was spun wide and off-loaded to the winger, who had the gas to beat the remaining defence.
After their efforts in the first half, unsurprisingly Barnstaple were a bit more subdued in the second half and a more determined effort from Brixham got them back into the game, with great runs by Andre Simonetti, Bradleigh Langdon, William Jackson, Luke Lang and Douglas Oakes. Brixham came closest to scoring after winning a penalty 5m from the tryline, but the Barum defence was equal to the challenge, turned the ball over and managed to clear their lines. Brixham certainly enjoyed more territory and possession in the second half, but were unable to convert that into points and Barnstaple hung on for a well deserved win.

21st Feb 2010 TOTNES 0 BRIXHAM 63
Brixham travelled to Totnes to play in bright sunshine, but on a very wet pitch! Totnes tried hard and did enjoy a couple of spells of pressure in the second half, but unfortunately they lacked the co-ordination and teamwork necessary to overcome a well-honed Brixham attack and aggressive defence, so the traffic became mainly one-way. Opening the scoring for Brixham was winger Luke Lang. He was followed over the line by William Jackson, Rob McLeod, Ben Weedon, Douglas Oakes, Bradleigh Langdon, Jacob Churchill, Harvey Bevan-Jones and Piers Benjamin. Conversions were kicked by Andre Simonetti, Sam Clarke, Rob McLeod and Bradleigh Langdon.

14th Feb 2009 Newton Abbot 21 Brixham 63
Brixham bounced back from defeat last week to overcome a strong Newton Abbot team, with nine tries shared between forwards and backs, although there was only one try separating the teams at half time. The All Whites had more grunt at scrum-time, but they found it difficult to compete with the mobility of the Brixham forwards at the rucks, so struggled for possession. Newton Abbot took the initiative from the kick-off however and a powerful driving maul by their forwards provided the springboard for an incisive run by a centre - several missed tackles later and the All Whites were 7 points up.
The young Fishermen retaliated with a fine run by Rob McLeod, the ball being taken over the line by William Jackson, but Newton Abbot did well to hold him up. Brixham won the resulting scrum and winger Luke Lang sprinted over to level the scores. Brixham forward Harvey Bevan-Jones did well to retrieve the ball from the kick-off and set up stand-in fly-half Sam Clarke for a weaving run before the ball found Lang again, who dived over for his second try.
Brixham were starting to warm up now and McLeod scored the third try after he ripped the ball in his own half and sprinted down the right hand touchline. Brixham full-back Jack Brown had a good game, including several excellent kicks for territory - a superb running angle set up Jackson for a powerful burst over the line, only for the ball to be held up again.
Newton Abbot came back into the game after winning a lineout, the ball found the same centre who had scored previously and his run cut open the Brixham defence to bring the scores up to 21-14 in Brixham's favour at half-time.
After the break, Brixham picked up the pace and Lang crossed the line for his hat-trick, after being driven over by the Brixham forwards. Brixham's next passage of play involved all of the backs and took the ball to within 5m of the Newton line. Brixham scrum-half Jacob Churchill took advantage of the stretched defence and went over for another converted try. A handling error from the kick-off gave Newton a good platform to attack from and they didn't miss their chance, scoring after a forward was driven over.
Bradleigh Langdon's hard work in the loose was rewarded with a try after great running by Lang, Clarke and Douglas Oakes. Brixham winger Tom Davies crossed the line for his first try after a slick move involving all of the backs and Piers Benjamin also took advantage of the now tiring All White defence to crash over. Oakes provided the icing on the cake after his elusive running notched up another score. Tries were converted by Sam Clarke and Rob McLeod.

7th Feb 2010 BRIXHAM 14 SIDMOUTH 21
Brixham played their most physical game of the season so far, against well drilled opposition who beat all-comers in last years youth rugby festival. Sidmouth were on the front foot from the kick off, with a game centred on their powerful forwards. Excellent rucking and a maul saw them cross the Brixham try-line shortly after the first whistle and the young Fishermen were under no illusion about what it was going to take to put one over on their counterparts. Brixham got back into the game with some great running of their own, but Sidmouth's blitz defence was efficient and committed. Superb rucking and counter rucking by Bradleigh Langdon, Ben Weedon, Allen Davis, Piers Benjamin, Jack Rainbird, William Jackson, Harvey Bevan-Jones, Josh Rogers and Oliver Cook gave the Brixham backs (Andre Simonetti, Rob McLeod, Douglas Oakes, Luke Lang, Jack Brown, Sam Clarke and Eliot Smith) the platform that they needed to keep the pressure up and Sidmouth were caught several times with their hands in the ruck, enabling Simonetti to kick for better field position.
However, Sidmouth's lineout and scrums were working well and a great run by their no. 12 proved unstoppable, to leave Sidmouth 14-0 up. This did not deter Brixham, as cracks were now beginning to appear in Sidmouth's defence and another infringement at a ruck gave Simonetti the chance to kick for great field position, 10m from the Sidmouth tryline. Brixham didn't win the lineout, but continuous pressure by Piers Benjamin, Bradleigh Langdon and William Jackson stopped Sidmouth from clearing their lines and the ball came back for Brixham scrum-half Jacob Churchill to dart in under the radar for Brixham's first try (see the video). Andre Simonetti converted. Despite the best efforts of both sides, the score remained 14-7 at half-time.
Centre Rob McLeod made a superb run from the restart with several defenders bouncing off him and Brixham won a penalty 5m from the Sidmouth line when their no.5 was pinged for entering the side of a ruck. There was no rest for the wicked though, as McLeod was chosen to run with the free kick and he managed to ground the ball despite the attentions of four Sidmouth defenders! Simonetti converted again and this brought the scores level at 14 all. Sidmouth it seemed, were a bit bemused, probably used to being ahead by 30 points at this stage and they lost some of their composure. The game became quite heated and saw penalties awarded to Brixham and the replacement of a Sidmouth player.
However it was the penalty awarded against Brixham later on, which saw the decisive score by Sidmouth. Their fly-half sent out a long pass to the no. 12 and his bullocking run added another converted try to their tally. The pressure was now on Brixham to score as the time ticked down and they did come close on two occasions, but Sidmouth did enough to close out the game and their relief was palpable. Although they didn't win, Brixham can take heart from their best performance of the season so far, in terms of physicality and grit, which will stand them in good stead for the matches to come.

Jan 31 2010 KINGSBRIDGE 7 BRIXHAM 12
A determined performance saw the young Fishermen edge out the home side in a very exciting and close encounter. The was an important game for Brixham after having lost the last 2 matches against this team, most recently at the start of the season. A number of new players had joined at that point and as the season has gone on, so their confidence and performance has improved dramatically. The pitch at High House was narrow and this favoured the heavier Brixham forwards and they made their presence felt from the start - Harvey Bevan-Jones, Josh Rogers, Oliver Cook, Bradleigh Langdon, Ben Weedon, Allen Davis, Piers Benjamin, Jack Rainbird, Jack Minchin and William Jackson all worked hard, particularly at ruck time, ensuring quality ball for the back line, which included Andre Simonetti, Rob McLeod, Douglas Oakes, Luke Lang, Jack Brown, Sam Clarke, Tom Davies and Eliot Smith, all of whom were able to make significant inroads into the Kings defence.
... But they didn't have it all their own way - the Kingsbridge defence was committed and it was some time before Brixham winger Luke Lang was able to power over the line with a couple of defenders attached. When Kingsbridge finally got their hands on the ball (usually after a penalty), they showed their potential and looked particularly menacing on the counter-attack.
Kingsbridge came close to scoring after a penalty close to the Brixham line, but the try was disallowed for a double-movement by the player. More pressure from Kingsbridge resulted in a scrum close to the Fishermen's try-line, but the Brixham scrum was able to disrupt the attack and Simonetti cleared his lines. McLeod and Oakes put in try-saving tackles and kept the score to 5-0 to Brixham at half-time. The second half opened up a little, but good tackling by both sides prevented several try-scoring opportunities. Great running lines by Simonetti and McLeod enabled Lang to force his way over the line for his second try, converted by Simonetti. The game was still close however as Kingsbridge kept up the fight and were rewarded with a converted try after strong running from a penalty. They now smelt victory, or at least a draw and only big tackles by Lang and Langdon prevented Kingsbridge from adding to their tally.

24th Jan 2010 BRIXHAM 24 CREDITON 7
Great teamwork saw Brixham overcome a spirited Crediton side in a first-time encounter. Crediton had the advantage at scrum time, but the Brixham backs were faster and their handling slicker, which enabled them to take their opportunities to score. Brixham had the kick-off and some early pressure saw the ball being passed wide to Brixham centre Rob McLeod, who crashed over for a try which went unconverted. It was then Crediton's turn to attack and they were awarded a penalty in a prime position 5m from the Brixham line, however this was snuffed out by a double tackle by Andre Simonetti and Bradleigh Langdon, McLeod was able to retrieve the ball and clear his lines. A counter attack followed, with great running by Simonetti, Luke Lang and McLeod, who was able to run in another try, which he went on to convert.
Brixham kept up the pressure and Crediton's defence improved, but they lost the battle of the loose to William Jackson and Langdon - a superb pass found Jack Brown, who was able to make good ground and pass out to Lang, who dived over for The Fishermen's third try.
The second half saw Crediton come back fighting and they found space on the left wing - only an excellent tackle into touch by Brown prevented a try. Brixham hooker Ben Weedon also made a try-saving tackle. Brixham's chances were fewer in the second half, but McLeod scored his hat-trick when he received the ball from a scrum 30m from the Crediton line after great runs by Simonetti and Douglas Oakes. Simonetti converted.
At no point did Crediton give up, they just increased their work rate. Crossing the line once, they were held up, but continuous pressure by them saw Brixham concede a string of penalties and eventually their fly-half dived over from a ruck close to the tryline, to score a well deserved try.

17th Jan 2010 BRIXHAM 59 DEVONPORT 0
Brixham Under 12's returned to action in a determined mood after the enforced cold weather break. They played an attractive game which was dominated by the Brixham forwards - William Jackson, Bradleigh Langdon, Ben Weedon, Allen Davis, Josh Rogers, Piers Benjamin, Jack Rainbird, Harvey Bevan-Jones and Oliver Cook worked hard, denying Devonport vital possession in the rucks and scrums.
The backs made good use of the possession and territory, with Brixham fly-half Andre Simonetti scoring within 20 seconds after the kick-off after a great tackle by Langdon. Centre Rob McLeod then scored the first of 3 tries, after good running by Sam Clarke and Jack Brown. A good drive by the forwards in a scrum 20m from the Devonport line released centre Douglas Oakes and he sprinted in under the posts.
It was 26-0 to Brixham before Devonport enjoyed a period of sustained pressure, but committed tackling from Brixham kept them out and McLeod was able to clear his lines. Brixham mounted another raid, but Oakes was judged held up over the line. Brixham won the resulting 5m scrum and a step back inside by Simonetti gave him his second try.
Josh Rogers came on after half time and made an impression straight away after powering over the try-line from close range. Another forward to get his name on the score sheet was Bradleigh Langdon with 2 tries in quick succession after great running by Tom Davies, Eliot Smith and Luke Lang. Seven tries were converted by McLeod.

13th Dec 2009 BRIXHAM 31 TORQUAY 14
Brixham played Torquay on a bright yet chilly Sunday morning. Torquay arrived without a full contingent, so several Brixham players sportingly agreed to swap shirts and play for the other side. In fact both of Torquay's tries were scored by Brixham wingers!
Brixham enjoyed some early pressure, but cold fingers meant a number of handling errors and Torquay were the first to put some points on the board after Brixham winger Luke Lang found enough space on the left wing to dodge a couple defenders and touch down in the corner. Brixham replied with 2 tries by elusive centre Douglas Oakes, after good work in the loose by Bradleigh Langdon and Harvey Bevan-Jones. One of these tries was converted by Rob McLeod.
At the beginning of the second half, Brixham won a scrum close to the Torquay line. Andre Simonetti passed out to McLeod who sprinted to the opposite corner. Langdon converted. McLeod scored his second try after Brixham won a lineout 20m from the Torquay line. Simonetti made good ground before off-loading to McLeod.
Torquay were not deterred and excellent pressure forced a penalty - a great run by winger Eliot Smith (a Brixham player) gave them another try which was converted.
Brixham's 5th try came after a good kick downfield by full-back Sam Hooper. Luke Lang (now back in a Brixham shirt!) collected the ball, was tackled but not held and was able to cross the whitewash, (not converted).

6th Dec 2009 BRIXHAM 7 EXETER CHIEFS 12
Brixham and Exeter Chiefs played a great game on Sunday and whilst the pitch was very heavy after overnight rain, (which no doubt didn't help the try-count), it was nevertheless a very entertaining contest between two quite evenly matched teams, with Exeter enjoying an edge at ruck time and Brixham's scrum more dominant, particularly in the second half.
Exeter opened their account early after winning a line-out inside the Brixham half. The ball found its way to their very capable winger, who went wide before cutting back inside at full pace to touch down. The young Fishermen's determination and great running by Andre Simonetti, Rob McCleod, Jack Brown and Douglas Oakes, saw them get within sniffing distance of the Exeter try-line on a number of occasions, before a penalty against them would see Exeter use the strong breeze to their advantage and push Brixham back into their own half again. Indeed Exeter scored their second try from a good kick over the top. The ref played advantage from the resulting knock-on under the posts and the Chief's inside centre pounced for a try which went unconverted.
During the second half, Brixham had the wind at their backs and scored after a great run by No.8 Piers Benjamin. He off-loaded to Oakley Thompson, who was assisted over the line by Eliot Smith. Andre Simonetti converted, which brought the scores to 7-12 in Exeter's favour. Brixham were within a converted try of winning the match and they kept up the pressure, but some excellent tackling by the Exeter defence ensured that the scoreline didn't change.

29th Nov 2009 Brixham 14 Newton Abbot 7
Brixham played Newton Abbot for the first time this year and came up against one of the largest packs in the area. Newton won the toss and elected to play the first half with the wind in their favour and although Brixham enjoyed some early pressure from the kick-off, the Newton forwards retrieved the ball and the fly-half was able to kick it back for field position. This became the theme of the first half, with the Brixham defence working overtime. The power of the All Whites forward driving being off-set by the incisiveness of the Brixham backs running game. Defences were on top in the first half and it remained scoreless.
This changed in the second half - now Brixham had the benefit of the wind and were able to spend more time in the Newton Abbot half. A scrum 15m from the Newton try-line was the starting point for a great run by centre Rob McCleod, he off-loaded to fly-half Andre Simonetti, who dived over for the first try of the match. It wasn't long before Simonetti was running again at the now tiring Newton defence. He provided a great pass out to winger Eliot Smith, who was able to run around 3 All White defenders to touch down in the corner. Simonetti converted both tries.
Newton Abbot did not give up and went back to the style of play which suits them - their powerful forward driving. They set up camp on the Brixham line for some time before their fly-half darted over beneath the posts for a deserved try, which he went on to convert.

1st Nov 2009 Ivybridge 49 Brixham 35
Brixham travelled to Ivybridge for a thrilling 12-try match, with both teams putting in 100% effort, despite the heavy pitch. It was agreed beforehand to split the match into 3 periods, each lasting 15 minutes, to accommodate the large number of reserve Ivy players wanting a game. This was to prove Brixham's undoing as they arrived with only 3 replacements and come the end of the second session Brixham were leading 28-14, but the third session turned out to be a completely different game, with Ivybridge able to field a larger number of replacements and fresh legs gave them the ability to put 5 tries past the now tiring Brixham team.
Ivybridge had the benefit of the slope to start and scored first via an interception. Brixham then played some of their best rugby so far this year with several new forwards gaining confidence, providing quick ball for the backs. Andre Simonetti and Douglas Oakes crossed the line in quick succession to leave Ivybridge reeling.
In the second period Brixham kept up the pressure and Oakley Thompson was the next to score after pinching the ball from an Ivybridge lineout, close to their line. It was a case of third time lucky for Jacob Churchill, who finally crossed the line for Brixham's 4th try after a great run by Luke Lang. Ivybridge then came back after their star winger, Megan Bowen, found some space and the speed to beat the remaining two defenders. Brixham kept hammering away and Oakes came close to scoring again. Handling errors and good defence by Ivybridge kept Brixham out.
So Brixham were leading and leading well at the end of the second period, but the tables were turned in the third period - Brixham's legs were now tiring, plus they were playing uphill again! Ivybridge brought the scores level quickly to 28 all before The Fishermen got back into the game, but another interception try put them on the backfoot. They didn't give up though and a superb solo run by Oakes from half-way brought Brixham back into the game. Unfortunately Ivybridge weren't finished and their wingers found more space to operate in, resulting in two more well-worked tries.
Andre Simonetti kicked all five conversions for Brixham.
Brixham can take heart from their best performance so far this year, especially with a number of new faces in the team finding their feet and several more experienced players away on holiday.

4th Oct 2009 Brixham 0 Kingsbridge 26
An excellent defensive effort by Kingsbridge denied Brixham a score, despite them coming close on several occasions. Brixham were fielding a number of new players and whilst everyone gave 100% effort, a degree of teamwork was lacking and Kingsbridge took advantage, with most of the damage being done in the first half.
Early pressure from Kingsbridge saw them being awarded a penalty close to the Brixham line, the ball was moved wide and the winger dodged the defence to touch down in the corner.
Brixham responded with some great running by fly-half Andre Simonetti, Douglas Oakes and Eliot Smith which resulted in Kingsbridge trying to play the ball on the ground and a penalty to Brixham close to the try-line. Unfortunately the ball was lost in contact and Kings were able to clear their lines.
Brixham came back after another swerving run from Simonetti - Rob Mcleod took it on, but was again stopped the wrong side of the try-line and Kingsbridge were able to kick the ball away. Brixham struggled to compete in the ruck area during the first half, giving Kings the platform they needed to attack from - a couple of missed tackles saw Kingsbridge add another 12 points to the score at the end of the first half.
The second half was a more even contest, with the new young Fishermen much more aware of their role, but Kingsbridge made the most of their opportunities and a burst up the middle of the field proved unstoppable and gave Kings their 4th try.

MATCH REPORTS 2008/9 (Under 11s)

Saturday 4th April 2009 BRIXHAM 15 THORNBURY BRONCOS 5
Brixham Under 11's played a touring side from Thornbury for the first time on Sunday and came away victorious after managing to close out what was initially a very tight game, with Thornbury more powerful in the scrum, but lacking the penetrative power of the Brixham backs. As several Brixham players were away for Easter and Thornbury had turned up with 26, they very kindly lent Brixham 3 of them and they played very well indeed for their adopted team. Although playing 'uphill', Brixham enjoyed the best of the pressure in the first half and the first try came from a scrum 10m from the Thornbury line - they had the put-in, but a poor clearance kick found Andre Simonetti, whose superb weaving run sent the defence in all directions and he touched down to put the first points on the board. As there were no posts nearby, no conversions were attempted. Simonetti also bagged Brixham's second try after excellent running and off-loads by Bradleigh Langdon and Daisy Fahey.
Brixham kept up the pressure in the second half and now with the benefit of the slope. Fly-half Langdon kicked downfield, the ball was re-gathered and sent through the hands of most of the Brixham backs, before finding a 'loaned' Thornbury player who proved just as keen to make his mark and sprinted for a touchdown in the corner. Thornbury started to shake-off the effects of the previous late night and scored a consolation try after one of their powerful forwards ripped the ball from the back of a maul which had tied up the Brixham defence and ran to the line unopposed.
BRIXHAM 5 THORNBURY 0
A second match was played which Brixham won 5-0, the only try scored by Brixham forward Josh Rogers, who was delighted as this was his first of the season. After the match, the Thornbury team and supporters treated Brixham to a rendition of 'I would walk 500 miles' by The Proclaimers and their coaches awarded their 'player of the match' award to Brixham full-back Daisy Fahey for her superb efforts in both defence and attack.

Sunday 15th March 2009 STONEHOUSE SHARKS 28 BRIXHAM 56
Brixham travelled to the Stonehouse ground on Sunday for this season's return fixture and played in brilliant sunshine. The Sharks couldn't field a full team, so a number of Brixham players sportingly agreed to play for the other side.
Brixham centre Andre Simonetti received the kick-off and his powerful running made good ground, before he off-loaded to winger Eliot Smith. Stonehouse were then caught off-side and full-back Daisy Fahey took the penalty quickly before making a long pass out to scrum-half Jacob Churchill, who made a great catch and dived early for Brixham's first try. Brixham forward William Jackson was the next to score after good linking between Simonetti, fly-half Bradleigh Langdon and forward Oakley Thompson. Brixham kept up the pressure and Smith made the line with the assistance of Fahey. Thompson then proved that he too could be in the right place at the right time, touching down twice in the space of a few minutes, with the help of under 11's newcomer Douglas Oakes, Rob McLeod and Fahey. Oakes' confidence was obviously growing as he was the next to score after a great run by McCleod. Sadly, another promising under 11's newcomer, Ben Copik was forced to leave the field injured and Brixham had to play on with a man down, but they finished the first half on a high after passing the ball the full width of the pitch, Smith putting in the final sprint to touch down in the corner.
During the interval it was decided to even things out and Fahey and Langdon became honorary Sharks for the second half. This certainly had an impact on the Stonehouse team and they played with renewed enthusiasm. Superb running by Fahey and rucking by Langdon gave the Sharks the field position for their first try, which they pushed over courtesy of their large forwards. McLeod had a try held up and then Fahey touched down twice for the Sharks, once from a sprint from her own half, the other off the back of a scrum 10m from the Brixham line. Brixham, slightly taken aback at being on the receiving end of Fahey's running skills, answered with two well-worked tries of their own, via Oakes and Thompson. Stonehouse had the last word though, touching down after a powerful drive by their forwards. Converting the tries for Brixham were Langdon (5), McLeod (2) and Simonetti.

Sunday 8th March 2009 PLYMSTOCK ALBION OAKS 0 BRIXHAM 52
Brixham travelled to Plymstock on a bright Spring morning, but that didn't last long! The teams ended up playing in a gale and driving rain, which seemed to dampen the spirits, but didn't stop Brixham playing the wide game which suits them.
The teams appeared quite evenly matched in the early part of the first half, with both sides making good use of their possession, Plymstock coming closest to scoring and only a try-saving tackle by Brixham winger Eliot Smith prevented them from getting on the score-sheet first. However, the Brixham forwards (Allen Davis, Oakley Thompson, William Jackson, Jack Minchin, Ben Weedon and Jack Rainbird) started to make their presence felt and although the Plymstock pack were more powerful in the scrum, they weren't as mobile or as willing to commit themselves in the ruck area, giving Brixham a great platform to attack from. Full-back Daisy Fahey was the first to cross their line, but the ball was held-up. Brixham won the resulting 5m scrum and the ball was passed out to Fahey again - good footwork by her saw Brixham 5 points up. Rob McCleod bagged a try after a poor clearance kick - Brixham fly-half Bradleigh Langdon picked it and passed out to McCleod, who made short work of barging over the line. Fahey collected the re-start and linked up with Andre Simonetti, whose numerous sidesteps had the Plymstock defence rooted to the spot and he ran in his first try.
After the interval the Brixham attack continued with winger Luke Lang making a superb run from half-way and having the strength to get the ball down despite the best efforts of a Plymstock defender. With the freezing weather further sapping the Oak's morale, Brixham ran in 4 more tries after excellent linking between the backs. Simonetti and McCleod both crossed again and Fahey ran in 2 more - both after blistering runs from half-way. Conversions were by Langdon (4), McCleod and Fahey.

Sunday 1st March 2009 Brixham 54 Salcombe 0
Brixham and Salcombe played this seasons return match on a bright Sunday morning at Astley Park. The Crabs arrived without a full team, so a number of Brixham players sportingly agreed to play for Salcombe and the final score doesn't do justice to the efforts made by the Crabs, who came close to scoring on several occasions.
The teams had parity in the scrums and Salcombe's commitment in the tackle was excellent, but limited rucking by them allowed Brixham to play in the free-flowing style they enjoy and when Salcombe did have the ball, their passing lacked accuracy, allowing the Brixham defence to close down their attacks.
Brixham forward William Jackson set up three tries, the first of which came after he made a powerful run down the left wing, drawing in the Salcombe defence, before the ball was spun right to winger Luke Lang, who found enough space to run around the remaining defenders to touch down. Brixham full-back Daisy Fahey scored next after a dummy pass and good linking with Andre Simonetti and Eliot Smith.
Lang scored again after fly-half Bradleigh Langdon ripped the ball from a Salcombe player and passed it out - the Salcombe defence had Lang marked this time, but he still managed to cross the line with two of them attached. Salcombe kept up the pressure from the re-start and they almost crossed the line, but a great tackle by Fahey allowed Brixham to reclaim the ball and Rob McCleod to clear. The Brixham chase was good and after great running by Smith and Jackson, McCleod touched down. Simonetti was the next to score after ripping the ball from a maul under the Salcombe posts and burrowing over. After the interval, Brixham were back on the attack with Fahey collecting the ball and bagging another try after a superb solo run.
Salcombe did not give up and after some excellent pressure, were awarded a penalty 5m from the Brixham line. Unfortunately the pass went astray and Langdon was there to rip the ball, allowing Simonetti to clear to touch. Jackson then set up two more tries to finish off a great mornings work - on both occasions strong running sucked in the Crabs defence, before he off-loaded the ball. The first beneficiary was McLeod who dived over in the right corner and then scrum-half Jacob Churchill made it over the line on the opposite side.
Conversions were by Langdon (5), McLeod and Smith

Sunday 22nd February 2009 BRIXHAM 59 DEVONPORT 12
Brixham entertained Devonport in a return fixture on a bright spring morning at Astley Park - perfect conditions for rugby. Brixham were expecting a tough, low scoring match, but the teams were playing on a wider pitch this time and the game was much more open, with both sides having more opportunity to run the ball.
Better rucking by Brixham however, saw Rob McCleod opened Brixham's account after picking the ball from a ruck 10m from the Devonport line and powering over. Devonport were just warming up though and their centre found a hole in the defence and also had the speed to run 2/3rds the length of the pitch without being tackled. The conversion was missed and Brixham were back on the attack with another blistering run by McCleod and off-load to Andre Simonetti (playing at prop), who sprinted to the corner flag. Winger Luke Lang was the next to score for Brixham, picking up the ball after continuous tackling pressure gave him the opportunity to dive over.
Devonport scored the next try which was almost a re-run of their first, with their very fast centre receiving the ball from the back of a scrum and sprinting unopposed from his own half to touch down beneath the posts. Brixham kept up the pressure and scored again via winger Eliot Smith who finished off a move started by McCleod.
The game opened up in Brixham's favour after the interval, with well worked tries by Daisy Fahey (playing at scrum-half for this game), McCleod, Bradleigh Langdon (2) and Simonetti (2). Conversions were by Langdon (5), Simonetti and McCleod.

Sunday 15th February 2009 BRIXHAM 66 TEIGNMOUTH 14
Brixham played a much improved Teignmouth side for the second time this season, winning by 66-14. Brixham had the kick-off and whilst the Teign's kept hold of the ball, they found themselves going backwards. Brixham won the first scrum 10m from the Teignmouth line and the ball was passed wide to winger William Whittaker, who was tackled, but made the line. Brixham forward William Jackson scored the first of two tries after he picked the ball from a ruck and powered over.
Brixham full-back Daisy Fahey collected the ball from the re-start and it was passed out to the left wing this time, where Luke Lang stormed through six tacklers to score at full-stretch. Fahey was the next to score after a good run and off-load by centre Rob McCleod.
After half-time, Fahey ripped the ball from a maul and passed to Brixham centre Andre Simonetti, who made an excellent weaving run from half-way to touch down in the corner, for the first of two tries. Teignmouth then enjoyed a bit of a purple patch, scoring two superb tries in quick succession. The first came after one of their forwards received the ball in space and after he had picked up speed, proved unstoppable; the second came from quick ball from a ruck on the half-way line which had tied up most of the Brixham forwards, this time the Teignmouth winger exploited the space created.
Brixham had the last word though and scored again via Lang (twice) and also by McCleod after he crashed over from close range. Conversions were by Simonetti (2), Bradleigh Langdon (2), Allen Davis, McCleod (2) and Fahey.

BRIXHAM 62 TORQUAY 0
Brixham Under 11's met Torquay at Astley Park on Sunday, playing in very cold conditions with a good easterly breeze blowing in. The scoreline does not reflect fairly the efforts made by the Torquay team, who worked hard and gave themselves several opportunities to score, but couldn't quite capitalize on them.
Torquay attacked from the start, but Brixham won the first scrum and kept up the pressure with the ball going from one side of the pitch to the other twice, before Brixham winger William Whittaker collected the ball and dodged several tackles to touch down in the corner. It was then the Tics turn to apply the pressure and they earned themselves a penalty 5m from the Brixham line, one of their forwards reached the line but knocked the ball on and Oakley Thompson was able to kick downfield. Brixham kept possession and from a series of rucks and mauls got close enough to the Torquay line to enable full-back Daisy Fahey to run in from a wide angle. Fahey claimed her second try after a good run by Andre Simonetti and helped over the line by the Brixham forwards. Fahey's third try came from an impressive catch in her own half and superb solo run to touch down beneath the posts. Daisy again collected the re-start before off-loading to Allen Davis - his run almost made the Torquay line, but an attempt to touch the ball down by Brixham scrum-half Jacob Churchill was ruled held up.
The second half re-start by Brixham didn't go 7m so Torquay opted for a scrum on the half-way line. Unfortunately they were pushed off the ball, which was passed between Fahey, Rob McCleod and Luke Lang, McCleod receiving the recycled ball before charging through the Torquay defence to touch down beneath the posts. William Jackson was the next to score for Brixham after he collected a lineout ball and powered through two attempted tackles. Bradleigh Langdon, playing for the first time at fly-half, ripped the ball from a maul and sprinted for the line, a desperate tap-tackle from the Torquay defence almost tripped him up, but he kept going for the first of two tries. McCleod and Fahey both scored again before the final whistle. Conversions were by Simonetti (2), McCleod (2), Davis and Fahey. Also working hard for Brixham in the loose were the Brixham forwards Jack Rainbird, Josh Rogers and Jack Minchin.

Sunday 18th January 2009 BRIXHAM 0 SIDMOUTH 26
On Sunday the only Youth game at Astley Park also featured Sidmouth and resulted in a rare defeat for the young fishermen. Sidmouth have been unbeaten all season and are reckoned to have the best team in this age-group in Devon. Two tries early in the game set up their win but Brixham were by no means disgraced and kept them out until the final minutes. Twice Brixham were close to scoring but were held up over the Sidmouth line.

Sunday 11th January 2009 BRIXHAM 26 EXETER SARACENS 5
Brixham Under 11's played Exeter Saracens for the first time on Sunday and it provided a highly entertaining spectacle with both sides showing real commitment and flair.
During the early part of the first half, both teams probed each others defences. Brixham were awarded a penalty in the centre, but a loose pass found the Exeter winger and he wasted no time escaping the attentions of an unprepared Brixham defence. There was a good breeze blowing and the conversion was missed. Brixham seemed to have the edge in the scrums and rucks, although the Saracens powerful running meant that they enjoyed a territorial advantage. Brixham's equalizing try came after a superb run by centre Rob McCleod, who burst through half a dozen tackles to touch down in the corner. Fly-half Andre Simonetti was kicking into the wind and the ball only just made it over the cross-bar! Exeter kept attacking and crossed the tryline after a terrific run by their centre, but good teamwork by Brixham slowed the ball down and kept it off the ground.
With the scores near level, there was still everything to play for in the second half, but now Brixham had the wind at their backs. Their second try came after a superb tackle by forward Bradleigh Langdon and excellent rucking by William Jackson, Josh Rogers, Ben Weedon and Allen Davis. McCleod picked it up, was tackled, but managed to pop the ball up to winger Luke Lang, who dived early to escape the cover defence. The conversion was missed, but the turning point in the game came when Brixham won a scrum 10m from the Sarries line. Winger Jesse Lowe made good ground and there was back-up from the forwards. Full-back Daisy Fahey took the ball and was pushed over. Simonetti converted.
Brixham's fourth try came after a trademark steal at a 5m lineout by Langdon. Fahey converted. Exeter stepped up the pressure and from a series of rucks and mauls almost made the Brixham line, only a knock-on at the last moment prevented them scoring and McCleod was able to clear his lines. The Saracens did not give up and only a try-saving tackle by Langdon prevented them adding to their score, just before the final whistle.

Sunday 4th January 2009 BRIXHAM 19 KINGSBRIDGE 28
Kingsbridge avenged their defeat at the hands of Brixham Under 11's at the start of this season, by making the most of their attacking opportunities and closing out a tight game. Kings were the first to score after their repeated attacks earned them a penalty close to the Brixham line. A powerful run by a Kingsbridge forward proved unstoppable. The re-start was collected by Brixham forward Bradleigh Langdon, he off-loaded to centre Rob McLeod, who crossed the line, but the ball was judged held-up. Brixham won the resulting 5m scrum and scrum-half Andre Simonetti's weaving run was enough to confuse the defence and he brought the scores level. Kingsbridge continued to keep up the pressure and scored 2 tries in quick succession, both of which came from good passing, which put their winger into space. They crossed the line a third time, but the ball was held-up.
Brixham came back strongly in the second half and after good running and re-cycling of the ball, were awarded a penalty 10m from the Kings line. It took 4 Kingbridge defenders to stop Brixham forward William Jackson making the try-line, but they couldn't stop Simonetti from such close range. The conversion missed, but Brixham kept up the pressure - full-back Daisy Fahey crossed the line, but again efficient Kingsbridge defence kept the ball off the ground. Simonetti brought Brixham back to within 2 points after scoring from a superb run off the back of a scrum. Both sides had opportunities to score in the final minutes and the result could have gone either way. In the end a fantastic run by a Kingsbridge winger from half-way sealed the win for them.

Sunday 21st December 2008 Exeter Chiefs 31 Brixham 21
Brixham under 11s fought a keenly contested battle against a very mobile and well-drilled Exeter.
Both teams started slowly with give and take in the middle of the park until after some great forward pressure by the Brixham forwards Oakley Thompson scored the first try (converted by Andre Simonetti) to take the lead. But ominously, Exeter scored a try straight from the restart (conversion missed). Exeter scored again from out wide and this time converted, and then promptly scored straight from the restart to leave Brixham reeling.
During half time Brixham made some changes with Josh Rogers feeling unwell and being replaced by Jack Minchin. Brixham came back strongly at the beginning of the second half and almost scored a try but were judged to have been held up. However, it was not long before Andre Simonetti powered over and the try was converted by Rob McCleod. But again the determined Exeter side came straight back with a try and conversion of their own and almost scored again but were held up. But they were not to be denied and scored from the scrum (not converted).
Brixham then really piled on the pressure with Mcleod just dropping the ball before being able to touch down and then another attempt again being judged to be held up. Finally, the Exeter defence cracked and Bradley Langdon did score (converted by McCleod). But the late rally came to an end when the final whistle blew to give Exeter the victory and condemn Brixham to their first defeat of the season...
Everybody agreed that they had missed the hard tackling of Jacob Churchill who is recovering from having his appendix removed. Get well soon Jacob, and best wishes from all your team mates.

Sunday 7th December 2008
Brixham Under 11's enjoyed another fantastic weekend with new training tops generously provided by sponsors MBS Building and Maintenance. Directors of MBS, Mark and Sarah Isaac, were on hand to present the tops and said, "we were extremely proud to support this magnificent and enthusiastic rugby team by sponsoring their training tops, which feature the eye-catching new logo of the re-branded company previously known as Marks Building Services Ltd." Brixham then went on to play two games, both of which they won:-
Brixham 14 Dartmouth 0
A much-improved Dartmouth side gave Brixham a good run out with the first game of the morning. The first half was evenly played with some good defence from both sides but a powerful scrummage close to the Dartmouth line by the Brixham forwards Josh Rogers, Bradleigh Langdon, William Jackson, Allen Davis and Oakley Thompson won the ball for Andre Simonetti who sprinted over for Brixham's first points. A drop goal conversion by Rob McLeod added the extras. The second half was again closely contested, with Brixham winger Eliot Smith making a good run down the right wing, which lead to centre Rob McLeod bagging another try, converted by Simonetti. Brixham kept up the pressure with a good run by Luke Lang, but superb defence from Dartmouth denied Jackson a try in the last moments of the game.
Brixham then went on to play Newton Abbot:
Brixham 56 Newton Abbot 7
Newton Abbot started well and powerful driving by their forwards put Brixham under pressure. Brixham responded with good defence - Ben Weedon, Jack Rainbird and Jack Minchin all responsible for some big tackles. An excellent run by Simonetti and off-load, led to a try by Brixham centre William Whittaker (converted by Daisy Fahey). Further pressure led to a second Brixham try as a result of a determined effort by Simonetti who took several Newton Abbot defenders over the line with him (converted himself). Newton Abbot then replied with a well-worked try through their powerful forwards.
However, Brixham were now full of confidence and nearly scored again from the restart, with Oakley Thompson being pushed into touch just short of the line. The game then swung decisively in Brixham?s favour with further tries by Simonetti (2), McLeod (running two thirds the length of the pitch), Langdon and Fahey (all converted) without reply, rounding off another great team effort by the Under 11's.

Sunday 23rd November 2008 SALCOMBE 14 BRIXHAM 42

Brixham travelled to Salcombe for a wet and windy match, which in the end they won by 42 points to 14, although there was only 1 try between the teams at the half-time whistle.
The Crabs started with the benefit of the slope and the wind behind them and they were the first to touch down after some superb running by their backs and a great off-load. Brixham levelled the score after a period of sustained pressure which got them a 5m lineout. Brixham forward William Jackson collected and passed to Bradleigh Langdon who powered over from close range. Salcombe came back with try after a Brixham kick was charged down - a Salcombe forward picked up the ball and made it to the line before the defence could recover.
Brixham scored again after a good run by centre Rob McLeod. He set up a ruck, got back into position and received the ball again, being helped over the line by Jackson and Allen Davis. In a match where a slippery ball and a heavy pitch made things more difficult, both sides missed chances. Brixham forward Oakley Thompson was able to touch down after a knock-on by Salcombe close their line, with the ref playing advantage.
Brixham scored early in the second half after they won an opposing scrum close to the Crab's line. The ball was passed down the line and full-back Daisy Fahey almost made it, quick ball for scrum-half Jacob Churchill meant the defence wasn't in position and he was able to push over for a try.
Some excellent running by Salcombe and inter-linking between forwards and backs got them close to the Brixham line, but the ball was lost forward again, enabling fly-half Andre Simonetti to clear his lines. Wingers Luke Lang and Eliot Smith both made good runs, but efficient Salcombe defence and rucking saw them recover the ball, only for it to be ripped back by Langdon, before he launched himself over the line.
When Salcombe were penalized for being off-side at a scrum, Simonetti took a quick tap penalty and a superb weaving run and off-load to Fahey saw her claim a try. Conversions were by Simonetti (2), McLeod (2) and Fahey (2).

Sunday 16th November 2008 BRIXHAM 54 STONEHOUSE SHARKS 0
Brixham met Stonehouse for the first time on Sunday and spectators were treated to a fantastic display by two keen teams. The Sharks enjoyed the best of the early pressure after a couple of knock-ons by Brixham, but were starved of quality ball by the power of the Brixham forwards - Ben Weedon, Josh Rogers, Oakley Thompson, William Jackson, Bradleigh Langdon and Allen Davis. Fly-half Andre Simonetti kicked to relieve the pressure and the Brixham chase was good -Langdon collected the ball and crashed over the line for the Fishermen's first try.
Brixham full-back Daisy Fahey provided an excellent display, collecting the re-start and making good ground before off-loading to Simonetti who kicked for field position. Jackson ripped the ball from a maul, almost making the line himself, before passing to winger Luke Lang and scrum-half Jacob Churchill, who both caught the ball and touched down together!
Brixham scored again after a flowing move from left to right, Fahey, Rob McLeod and Simonetti on the loop, before the ball found Lang on the wing and he touched down in the corner. Fahey was the next to score after a great run by Jackson. The forwards took the ball on and Fahey emerged to sprint the final few metres to the line.
The Sharks mounted another raid, but Brixham turned the ball over and Simonetti kicked - Lang collected and ran half the pitch for his third try. Fahey scored again from a penalty tap 20m from the Stonehouse line, her running scattering the defence.
Good pressure from Stonehouse got them a scrum 5m from the Brixham line, but again they were pushed off the ball and Churchill was able to kick downfield. An excellent chase and tackle by winger William Whittaker slowed the ball up, allowing Langdon to collect and run in under the posts. Fahey claimed her hat-trick after Simonetti ripped the ball and off-loaded. Conversions were by Simonetti (4), Fahey (2) and McLeod (1).

Sunday 9th November 2008 Teignmouth 7 Brixham 90
Brixham travelled to Teignmouth on Sunday, playing in very wet conditions but winning the match 90-7. Teignmouth were short a couple of players, so borrowed a forward and a back from Brixham. The Fisherman kicked off and had the best of the early pressure, but couldn't capitalize on it and the Teigns kicked downfield. Brixham collected the ball but Teignmouth ripped it from a maul and found a big hole in the Fisherman's defence, to touch down in the corner. This had the desired effect on the Brixham team and from the re-start they looked composed in attack and aggressive in defence. The forwards were more powerful in the scrum and there was good inter-linking between fly-half Andre Simonetti, centre Rob McLeod and full-back Daisy Fahey.
Top try scorer was McLeod with 4 to his tally, Bradleigh Langdon touched down 3 times, Simonetti twice, Daisy Fahey, Eliot Smith, William Whitaker, Jacob Churchill and William Jackson had 1 each. Simonetti, McLeod and Langdon converted all but 4 of the tries.

Sunday 2nd November 2008 Under 11s - TORQUAY 12 BRIXHAM 35
This was an excellent game dominated by the Brixham forwards William Jackson, Bradleigh Langdon, Ben Weedon, Allen Davis and Josh Rogers. They worked hard, particularly in the scrum, even winning balls against the put-in. They provided quick ball to the backs, with Luke Lang making the first of several good runs up the wing, setting up a ruck from which Rob McLeod emerged, shrugging off tackles for Brixham's first try.
Brixham's next try came from a Torquay scrum 20 metres out. The ball was passed out to Brixham winger Eliot Smith who wriggled through a number of tackles, eventually being stopped just before the line. Jackson collected and touched down.
The second half brought sustained pressure from Torquay, Brixham retrieved the ball but knocked-on, the ref played advantage and Torquay fly-half Dion Dickerson ran in a superb try. Torquay then kicked deep, the ball was collected by full-back Daisy Fahey and passed out to Lang, who made an excellent run, scattering defenders to score in the corner. Next to score was Oakley Thompson after a blistering run and an unselfish pass by McLeod. Torquay built momentum from the re-start and Dickerson notched up another try after running from a 5m scrum.
Brixham sealed the win after good running and an offload by Fahey to McLeod. All five tries were converted - by Simonetti (4) and McLeod.

Sunday 19th October 2008 BRIXHAM 12 DEVONPORT SERVICES 5
Brixham Under 11's travelled to Devonport Services on Sunday for a terrific match where two defensive sides gave 100% effort - indeed the game was so tight that neither team was able to score in the first half and it was 25 minutes before the first try was scored! Devonport made the initial attack and came close to the Brixham line on two occasions before the forwards retrieved the ball and fly-half Andre Simonetti was able to clear his lines. Devonport gave away a couple of penalties for handling in the ruck and it was Brixham's turn to apply the pressure.
There was good running and passing by the Brixham backs, Luke Lang, Jack Rainbird, Eliot Smith & Jack Minchin; Rob McLeod coming closest to scoring just before half-time. Brixham were the hungrier of the two teams in the second half with powerful driving by the forwards William Jackson, Bradleigh Langdon, Ben Weedon, Josh Rogers and Oakley Thompson tiring the Devonport defence - off the back of this Brixham full-back Daisy Fahey made an excellent run and nearly reached the try-line - Simonetti collected the ball to dive over with two defenders attached. Simonetti converted his try, but Devonport retaliated with a superb try of their own, set up from a ruck after a good run by their scrum-half; unfortunately he missed the conversion to leave Brixham still ahead. Fahey sealed the win with a try just before full-time, after excellent teamwork combining both forwards and backs.

Sunday 12th October 2008 BRIXHAM 61 DARTMOUTH 7
It was a bumper weekend for Brixham Under 11's - first they received smart new shirts from sponsors Andy McLeod and Jason Stride of McLeod Stride Engineering and then went on to beat Dartmouth in their first encounter with the team. Fittingly, the first try was scored by Andy McLeod's son Rob, after good running and off-loads by full-back Daisy Fahay and fly-half Andre Simonetti.
Brixham forward William Jackson scored next after stealing a lineout ball close to the try-line and surging over. Simonetti then scored twice, the first after Bradleigh Langdon collected a lineout ball, the second after he kicked the ball from his own half and chased it down.
Brixham's fifth try was notched up by newcomer Jack Rainbird, playing only his second match for the Under 11's. The Brixham forwards (Langdon, Ben Weedon, Jackson, Allen Davis and Josh Rogers) worked hard, particularly in the scrum, even winning balls against the put-in and helping Fahay to touch down after she collected the ball from a ruck under the Dartmouth posts.
Simonetti scored his third after a superb solo run from half-way. Brixham scored twice more via McLeod and Davis. Converting the tries for Brixham were Fahay (3), Simonetti, McLeod, Oakley Thompson, Jacob Churchill and William Jackson. Dartmouth did not give up at any stage and turned pressure into points after a powerful driving maul tied up the Brixham forwards - quick ball to the Dartmouth winger saw her slip through some loose Brixham tackling to score beneath the posts.

Sunday, 28th September 2008 BRIXHAM 21 KINGSBRIDGE 7
Kingsbridge entertained Brixham to a terrific match played in bright sunshine on Sunday. Brixham won 21-7, although the scoreline doesn't do justice to the efforts of the Kingsbridge team and indeed, they were the first to score within 30 seconds of the start of the match after the ball was passed quickly to their winger, who dodged two tackles to touchdown in the corner.
This was Brixham's wake-up call and they attacked from the restart with Brixham forward Bradleigh Langdon collecting the ball. The remaining 10 minutes they spent camped inside the Kingsbridge half, with excellent attacking play by Brixham fly-half Andre Simonetti, centre Rob Mcleod and full back Daisy Fahay. Their efforts paid off and McCleod scored a try in the corner which Simonetti converted. A tremendous weaving run by Brixham winger Eliot Smith gave Simonetti the opportunity to score again, but he was denied by good tackling inches from the line.
The second half started with Brixham on the attack again, but being held up by an efficient Kingsbridge defence. The game turned when Brixham were awarded a penalty on the half-way line. Simonetti kicked to touch and Brixham won the lineout, forming a maul from which he darted over to score. Fahay, on her first outing for the Under 11's, converted.
Kingsbridge came back strongly from the kick off, but Brixham absorbed the pressure, with excellent work in the scrums and rucks from the forwards, Bradleigh Langdon, Ben Weedon, William Jackson, Allen Davis and Josh Rogers always winning the ball for the backline. Brixham's third try was actually a penalty try, given when Kingsbridge brought down a maul close to their line. Simonetti converted. Fahay nearly scored just before the final whistle, but the ball was judged held up.
