24th April 2011 BRIXHAM v TAMWORTH
Brixham under 7`s concluded their (very succesful) first season of rugby on Sunday. The visitors were Tamworth who were on their annual easter `pilgrimage` to Astley Park.
In very warm conditions the players played some lovely rugby, with both teams passing the ball nicely and showing very good tagging skills.
The difference between the two teams was the speed of the Tamworth counter-attack - any loose ball and the Tamworth lads took full advantage to score.
The scoreline of 13 tries to 7 in both games probably didn't do Brixham any justice, as they always looked a match for the Leicestershire U7 champions.
For Brixham, recent recruit Jake Curtis played well and should be a valuable asset as the team go up through the age groups.
Brixham scorers throughout the fixture were well deserved tries for Miles Roberts and Tyrell Magrin along with regular scorers Luke Noakes and Charlie Mudge(2), whilst the vastly improved Zach Harris scored a superb hattrick, and 6 excellent tries scored from the elusive running of Marsden Criddle.
The Brixham coaches would like to thank the club, players and families for their commitment and support throughout the season and look forward to seeing them all back for Brixham rugby week and then the new season after the summer break.
10th April 2011
Brixham went to the Devon festival at Ivybridge and showed just how they have improved in recent weeks. The players had to contest with very warm conditions and a hard pitch, whilst the supporters enjoyed a picnic and soaked up the sunshine. The event is expertly run and is a great opportunity to play against clubs not normally encountered.
Brixham`s first game in their pool was against Exmouth. The `young fishermen` got off to a superb start to record a 40-25 win. The next game was a whole lot tougher against local rivals, Torquay. The scores were going Tics way up to half-time but Brixham hauled themselves back into the game with 5 second-half tries to narrowly lose 40-30.
After the lunch break Brixham faced a strong Stonehouse side who looked very dangerous in attack. Brixham were by now playing some very neat rugby. The support players were taking passes at pace but were undone by the occasional handling error. The final score went Stonehouse` way with a 40-25 victory.
The last game of the festival was against a `Barbarians` side. By now there were some weary bodies, but the players picked themselves up for one last effort, and an entertaining 30-30 draw was recorded.
Brixham Scorers throughout the festival were Marsden Criddle (2), Zach Harris (4), Tyrell Magrin (3), Luke Noakes (5), Charlie Mudge (1) and, returning from his `Aussie` holiday, Kosey Elliott collected 10 tries. The other members of the squad - George Bowles, Miles Roberts and Josef Webber all played well.
27th March 2011
Brixham played some lovely rugby at the Trevor Ward festival held at Paignton on Sunday.
The young fishermen played games against Exeter Saracens, Ivybridge, Clifton and Paignton.
The overall winners of the U7`s age group were Clifton. They defeated Brixham by 6 tries to 1 in the pool games, and had a very talented player who grabbed numerous tries throughout the day.
Brixhams best result was a 30-15 win against Exeter Saracens. In the other games but the quality of Brixhams attack and improved tagging meant that all the games were evenly contested.New player Jake Curtis played well, as did Miles Roberts who got lots of tags. Ashley Chart and Jack Coll looked dangerous with the ball in hand. Brixham try scorers throughout the festival were Zach Harris, Charlie Mudge, Marsden Criddle, Luke Noakes and a great performance from Josef Webber.
The next fixture Brixham have is in 2 weeks time when they go to Ivybridge for the annual Devon under 7`s festival.
March 20th 2011 BRIXHAM v SALCOMBE
Brixham welcomed Salcombe to Astley Park and despite Salcombe being short on players the games were tight throughout. The sides played 6 a-side which left plenty of space out wide. Brixham got away to an early lead but taking advantage of turnover ball after Brixham handling errors, the balance tipped in Salcombe's favour to record a 45-35 win in the first game.
A second very short game was played which went Salcombe's way 20-15.
Brixham tries throughout the fixture were scored by Marsden Criddle (5), Luke Noakes (3), and Charlie Mudge (1) but try of the day was scored by Zach Harris who weaved his way through the well drilled Salcombe defence.
13th March 2011 TORQUAY v BRIXHAM
Brixham made the short journey across the bay to play Torquay on a beautifull spring day. The `young Tics` are the best team that Brixham have faced this season and it was a comfortable 50-10 win for them in the first game. In a second game, Brixham came to life. They worked hard in defence, handled better and scored 9 tries in an entertaining match. The Tics however edged the game 50-45.
Brixham scorers were Luke Noakes, Josef Webber, Jack Coll, Charlie Mudge, Tyrell Magrin and 4 tries for Marsden Criddle, who made a welcome return after impressing all the coaches at Brixham rugby week last summer.
Zach Harris and George Bowles put in good performances with their tagging and the team welcomed Jake...for his first rugby match.
6th March 2011 BRIXHAM v TOTNES
Brixham and Totnes under 7`s played some great rugby at a chilly Astley Park on Sunday.
Throughout the match the sides were evenly matched and traded tries in a feast of running rugby. In a first game Brixham opened their scoring through George Bowles. Totnes replied and so it went on. After 20 minutes Brixham had edged the game to win 40-30. Both teams showed good skills with their passing and support work.
A second game was equally as tight and the teams couldn't be separated at the final whistle. A 35-35 draw.was a fair result. Brixham scorers throughout the fixture were George Bowles (1), Ashley Chart(1), Jack Coll (2), Charlie Mudge (3) and Luke Noakes (8).
Next Sunday the `young fishermen` welcome Torquay for a return match.
6th February 2011 BRIXHAM v WITHYCOMBE
Brixham under 7`s welcomed Withycombe (from Exmouth) to Astley Park on Sunday.
In the first game played, the visitors showed a nice balance between attacking flare and an organised defence.
Brixham had their moments but weren`t allowed much space, and stuggled to combat the speed of their opponents.
At the final whistle Withcombe recorded a deserved 55-25 win.
The second game was very different. Brixham were probing the gaps and when they got held up, there were support players able to continue the attack. The Brixham defence also got to the gain line much quicker, putting pressure on Withycombe. The teams were evenly matched throughout the game, but Withcombe edged it with a 50 35 scoreline.
Brixham try scorers throught the games were Matthew Duffelen(1), Ashley Chart (1), Charlie Mudge (1) , Josef Webber(2) scoring his first Brixham tries, and finally Luke Noakes with 7 tries. A mention should also go to Tyrell Magrin who played his best rugby so far and was very unlucky not to score
Next week Kingsbridge are the visitors.
30th January 2011 DEVONPORT SERVICES v BRIXHAM
For the first time in their rugby careers, Brixham under7`s travelled away to their game by coach. The club generously provided transport for all the age groups to Devonport Services in Plymouth.
The young `fishermen` have showed so much improvement in recent weeks that for the first time this season they achieved 2 wins against their hosts.
In the first game Brixham attacked from the kick off and by half time were 5 tries to 3 in the lead. The second half was very even with 4 tries scored by both sides. The two try cushion was enough to give Brixham a deserved 45-35 win.
A second game was played and once again the support play and ball handling was great to watch. After 20 minutes of play, Brixham had done enough to win the game 45-40.
Every player had contributed towards the result with good defensive work. The try scorers for the day were Kosey Elliott (2), Charlie Mudge (5), Luke Noakes (8) and showing excellent speed and space awareness Ashley Chart was rewarded with 2 tries.
23rd January 2011 BRIXHAM v STONEHOUSE
Stonehouse were the welcome visitors to Brixham on Sunday. The game was switched to the community college pitch and despite the raw wind, two entertaining games were played.
In the first game Stonehouse opened up an early lead and looked comfortable at half time with a 30-10 lead, but Brixham played with a lot more confidence in the second half. The young `fishermen` were moving the ball nicely, but could have done with a slightly better defence to contain the pace of the visitors. The first game finished as a 45-30 victory to Stonehouse.
In a second game further improvements were made in getting to the opposition quicker. The Brixham attacks were sometimes a little lateral, but the players retained possesion and supported well. Brixham got the upper hand and finished as 35-25 winners. Brixham try scorers were Charlie Mudge (4), Kosey Elliott (3), Luke Noakes (5) and a great debut score for new player Jack Coll.

Saturday 7th January 2011 TORQUAY v BRIXHAM
On a sun drenched afternoon,Brixham under 7`s travelled to Torquay for a Saturday match as a curtain raiser to the TICS 1st XV match. The ground was in remarkably good condition in view of how much rain had fallen overnight.
The hosts were kind enough to lend a player to Brixham, and instead of having excess players on the sidelines additional players took to the field for the entire match.
Torquay started off strongly. They had some very quick and elusive players who ran in 3 early tries. Brixham gradually adjusted to the pace of the game and got themselves on the scoreboard. At half time Torquay led 30-15 with all three Brixham tries scored by Luke Noakes.
In the second half Brixham played a lot better. Charlie Mudge was attacking well down the wings. In defence Miles Roberts was tagging well and new player, Josef Webber, also impressed. Good improvements were also shown by George Bowles and Zach Harris.
Brixham scored 3 second half tries, albeit by their borrowed players whilst Torquay ran in a further 2 tries for a deserved 40-30 victory.
5th December 2010 BRIXHAM v TORQUAY
Brixham came across a strong Torquay side on Sunday. The visitors to Astley Park were the strongest oppositon that Brixham have seen this season. In the first game Brixham attacked well, but were undone by sloppy final passes or running into touch whilst the `young TICS` looked comfortable with the ball in hand. Torquays 13 tries to 2 victory reflected how well they controlled the game.
In the second game Brixham functioned far better as a team. The support running and better handling gave them a 7 tries to 4 win. Brixham tries throughout the matches were scored by Charlie Mudge, Kosey Elliott and Luke Noakes.
A player who had a vastly improved game was Zach Harris, whilst the 2 new players, Josef Webber and Matthew Duffelen both played well.

31st October 2010 PLYMSTOCK v BRIXHAM
Brixham under 7`s travelled to Plymstock on Sunday and recorded a win and a loss. The warm up was conducted in the rain, and by match time players were contending with a slippery ball in difficult conditions.
In the first game the sides traded tries and after 20 minutes of rugby the score was a narrow 10 tries to 9 win for Plymstock. Brixham scorers were Luke Noakes (4), Kosey Elliott (3), Miles Roberts and a first Brixham try for George Bowles. After a short break a second game was played and the Noakes and Elliott tries kept coming, helped by some good tagging by Zac Harris, Joe Voase and Tyler.
